Let's take NC State as an example. It is an "adidas" school. what that meant prior to NIL was that the schools sport teams were given x amount of equipment (shoes and uniforms) per season. adidas also paid the athletics department x amount of money. for some D1 schools, this is millions if your football and basketball teams are high ranked. I believe most of the money went to specific coaches. some of the most well-known coaches are getting millions. The athletes were getting nothing (wink, wink). Now with NIL's , the athlete is being paid directly.
And this extends to high school athletes to. Not sure NIL is a good thing.
When anyone with enough followers can get a deal for trying on clothes or putting on makeup on social media, it is pretty tough to argue that athletes should be excluded from this.
I guess that settles the "who's more marketable" debate. BTW, Touhy looks every bit as good as Valby. With professional hair stylist and makeup, she'd easily be turning heads.
The highest paid college athlete is LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne. It's not even close. She deserves every penny. Good for Katelyn, hope she makes a bundle and keeps improving.
Dunne is the highest paid female at something over $1 million. Bryce Young had over $3 million a year in NIL deals. I’m laughing at the concept from earlier in the thread that his is about free shoes and warmups. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tuohy is getting over $100k from this. She has the highest name recognition among the key youth demographic of any runner on the planet.
I doubt anyone outside of the US has every heard of her unless they browse these message boards.
Smart move for both parties! She gets the obvious income and perks. Adidas can use her in their marketing efforts. I would be interested to know if a well-known collegiate athlete that races and wins with frequency does more to move products than a domestic pro that races very little and then often finishes well behind Africans? I suspect Ms. Tuohy or an equivalent male would inspire more high school kids to buy shoes than would a Bowerman pro.
Great. She should hire someone to manager her socials. They are super weak. It's fine because she is a baller-ass runner but if the name of the game is $$$, get someone on it stat.
It seems like there isn’t much difference between going pro and getting an NIL deal.
Yep, its like going pro while in college
Exactly. So my question is, I know people go pro all the time, but is this the first NIL deal for a XC athlete-- either sex?
When NIL came out it was clear to almost everyone it was basketball and football where it would be relevant. I did not see a gal XC athlete doing this. This is awesome.

I asked my XC runners and most of them never heard of her. Sad as that is. Certainly never heard of PV. Its XC in the US.

Katelyn is alowkey person hence the 25 posts only ... but with this NIL deal.. surely she will post more often!
