So you're gloating because they ran 14:27? In what world do you live in that 14:27 at Woodward Park is a failure? Three runners 14:40 or faster...you're grasping at straws.
Also congratulations on being the kind of person who thrives on what you perceive to be failure.
unless you’re actually stupid enough to believe leo is in 14:38 shape, this was just a bad race.
i don’t know what kind of mental gymnastics are necessary to say that “oh yeah he ran 14:25 a month ago when it was 75°, I think he could probably run 14:23 today” is laughable.
Not a failure at all. They actually did a little better than I would have predicted.
Still, though, you're going to have update the list of excuses now.
LOL.

There's a difference (an important one) between "could" and "did." Leo didn't run 14:23 and I didn't think we would.
German was ~8 months younger, ran alone, and had (comparably) outdated shoes. He could have run sub 14:20 in today's race.

yes you clearly had the premonition that leo would hit some kind of wall today which he’s never done except for once when he was extremely sick
14:24 is one of the greatest performances of all time without a doubt. but gloating over a one off bad day is just as weird as the people who diminish GF for not winning foot locker when he wasn’t 100%

Yes, it's called the "wall of not being good enough." No disrespect to the Youngs -- they're all-time greats -- but they went for it and missed. Just like Nico and Colin, and exactly as I predicted.
I don’t pay super close attention but it seems like those guys always run about the same time within a few sec on that course. Not a bad thing at all. Seems like they’re just fit throughout seasons rather than some wild and crazy peak.
I actually agree with this guy. Had German not forgotten his spikes at FLN (doh!) he likely would have demolished everyone and many more would put him as no1 of all time.
the Youngs (all 3) are all time top 25 but not on his level.
His candle burned brighter and hotter than most, but also flickered out very quickly.

ok. you clearly had some great premonition that leo young’s best possible performance is 1 second back of the record. despite getting better conditions today. thanks nostradamus.
you have to realize how ridiculous that sounds?? 14:25 is fine but he couldn’t possibly be good enough for 14:23 a month later. that’s one of the dumbest things i’ve ever heard on this board.
you started by saying could and did are different, now you’ve changed to he couldn’t possibly have done it.

While German did in fact "forget his spikes" (he wore the same waffle-style flats that he used at CA state), the real problem was that he was sick the day of FLN.

magazine, pure mental gymnastics
What? I really don't get what you're going on about. Maybe he's capable of running faster than he did, maybe not.
I certainly understand that it's possible to be less than 100% (for any number of reasons) for any given race. But that's true for everyone.
All we know for sure is that Nico (multiple times), Colin (multiples times), Leo (multiple times), and Lex (multiple times) all failed to break the record.

Ok i’ll spell it out for you if thinking is so hard.
You laughed at the fact that people predicted the record would fall.
I said that a guy who had come within one second could beat the record is not laughable.
you said there’s a difference between be able to do something and actually doing it.
i said you must be a psychic to know leo would hit a wall today (and not do it even if he could) because he clearly had an off day, not a common occurrence.
you said that this wall was not be good enough. as in he could not do it
youre changing your explanations and using horrible logic but no one cares because you were right about the actual result

No, you assumed that because Leo had run ~14:26 that he would break the record given another chance.
That's an assumption I wasn't willing to make, especially given the fact that Nico and Colin (who were arguably better XC runners) also failed.
With a record of this caliber, it's not "logical" to assume that better weather = better result. Too many other factors are involved.
And yes, Leo wasn't good enough today. That's all that matters.
I'm done here. I'll see you in the NXN prediction thread 😉

At first glance, NP performance looks disappointing because records were not broken (individual and team), but other than Leo, everybody improved on their performance from last year. It was certainly not a disaster.
Lex -3s
Aaron -5s
Doshi -23s
For the team members who were not at State last year:
Seymour improved his 5km PB by 5s
Cantu was only 10s slower than his 5km PB from Running Lane and was only 10s behind Seymour. In addition, he ran 35s faster than he did at Clovis and was only one position behind KC Barber who was 7th at section final.
Shetty ran a 10s PB
…but no. It was not the 2021 team.
Maybe they will continue to progress and impress us at NXN. Not that they are not impressive, but the bar was set very high.

I mean yeah i think it’s fair to say that he had a very good chance to improve by 2 seconds in a few weeks with better conditions. more fair than trying to compare him to nico or somehow coming to the conclusion that colin is a better xc runner than leo
As for nxn, I think this shows they aren’t invincible. They are capable of having a bad day. But assuming this isn’t an illness/injury for leo, I still like them 1-2. Their absolute floor barring disaster is a performance like today, probably somewhere in the 5th to 8th range, where I think aaron will likely end up. I’m sure you’ll make your case for hunter.
