everyone saying valby wont run the 5,000m bc she “misses the cutoff” is wrong. Theres no way they wouldnt let her in bc her PR is 15:20.xx. Those numbers are always up for disgression and there are not going to be very many pros racing a hard 5k on december third which means the will have to fill the field with collegians. So either its just tuohy (and mercy chelengat?) or they let people with PRs over 15:20 into the field.
i dont know the valby will run it, but if she doesnt i guarantee its not bc they wanted to but they wouldnt let her in

theres a post last night... parker valby will run at boston together with bowerman track club on february 10-11 ... 14:30 pace 5k pace
not surprising knowing her coach solinsky is from bowerman track club
At the February BU 5k race last year, Debues-stafford set the Canadian indoor record and Cranny set the American indoor record 14:33. They really separated from the rest. The video is on YouTube.
Elly Henes was also in the race, in the chase pack, and ran 15:03. There might have been two different pacers, I would need to rewatch.
Looks like another Charlie Hicks special is brewing . . . the BU meet is on Stanford's schedule.
And, for those who remember how good Zofia Dudek was 3 years ago December when she won FootLocker a week after Tuohy won NXN, we could actually see her run her first track race as a collegian . . . possibly in the same race as Tuohy. Not that she'd give Katelyn any competition. Just an interesting scenario, given that in 2019 many/most thought Zofia was the better of the two at the time.
'Many' yes...'most', absolutely not. And of that 'many' Dudek fans...most on LR were the typical band-wagon jumpers. And they sure hopped off her bandwagon as quickly...and then went looking for the next non-Tuohy racer they could find. Nary a word was written about her for 2 years. Tuohy was also hurt...yet her fan base stayed.
The 1A / 1B was horrible. Dudek had a good FL race, because other runners made it interesting. The same can be said for NXN. But however you want to look at each race, the award was for Runner of the Year...not favorite race (HS Performance of the year was won by Nico...Dudek did not rank).
Any way, I am a Dudek fan and was very pleased to see her place well at Natty's. Hopefully she continues to recover/improve.
While there is a correlation between X country and track performance, success is one does not guarantee success in the other. In particular 5 K/10K optimization still requires a higher ratio of speed to strength training compared to cross county. Pat Porter is a prime example--many national cross country titles in the 1980s but did not making any Olympic team in track to my knowledge.

Those listed times are just what the heats are paced for are they not?
The coach at BU is super nice and is always willing to make things work for athletes competing, I’d guess most girls who have run 15:30 and are obviously trending towards 15:20 will be allowed in with no issue

Exactly, last year some girls in the 5k didn’t even have a prior 5k time but if you have competent times in other events I’m sure he will honor that. Coaches know what it means to move someone up who has a lot of strength training under them in December.
