Mountain View and Rocky Mountain are locks on the boys side. I doubt either of those regions will get 2 at large bids, although Mountain Vista is very good and could sneak in.
On the girls side Air Academy and Mountain Vista will both get in from the Southwest. That region is stacked. Dyestat has 8 nationally ranked teams in that region. Even with 2 at large bids the Southwest girls are getting the short end of the deal.
On the boys side:
I think Mountain View and Rocky Mountain are locks. The third CA team will also be able to go.
The last one here is looking to be one of these:
Downers Grove North (this one seems the most likely)
Mountain Vista
Dowling Catholic
Possibly the second at-large team out of California if they finish close to the third team in the merge, or if someone sneaks in between Newbury Park, San Clemente and Granada
On the girls side
Air Academy
Third team in the merge from California
Flower Mound
Last one looks to be one of these:
Mountain Vista (although they took 4th, this one seems to be the most likely since finished close to Air Academy and far ahead of the 5th place team)
Boise Senior (but without Sammy Smith they aren’t very good)
Minnetonka
Possibly the 4th team from California if the top 3 are Buchanan, Los Altos, and JSerra, and the 4th team gets close in the merge. Newbury Park could possibly come close if all of their top 5 are healthy
Third team from the MW maybe? York and Mt Prospect are extremely good but no one else showed potential, and they didn’t beat any other autoqualifiers
Agreed that Mtn View and Rocky Mtn are locks. I think it’s really hard to make a case for Vista, who got beat by a lot of teams all year, when their are other teams with better resumes and who have beaten auto qualifiers (Downers North beating Hinsdale just a few weeks ago and Dowling beating Wayzata at beginning of season). DG also has a high speed rating. Cali will show a lot, but I think it’s also hard to argue for 4 teams from any region this year.
Definitely not vista boys. They haven’t done anything that deserves the bid. They almost beat Mountain View but Mountain View had a bad race
vista girls though, it’s quite possible. This region is deep on the girls side
Will CA send 2 at large boys teams?
Great Oak, Granada and San Clemente looked close in times
cant wait to see how the merge turns out
Newbury - 54
Great Oak - 214
San Clemente - 264
Granada - 303
So I think locks for boys will be
Rocky Mountain
San Clemente
Mountain View (unless they overreact to their poor NXR race)
Last one is looking to be one of these
Downers grove north
Granada
Dowling Catholic. Doesn’t seem likely but they have been ranked somewhat high. And their 5th didn’t run with both shoes
McCallie might be a dark horse for being so close to Belen and Farragut
Dowling was ranked top 20 all season and was undefeated. They beat Wayzata at griak which is the main criteria for selection.
Off topic. But how will the selections be announced? A livestream? A link?

Here. And also on the milesplit front page
A lot of babble about who are going to be the back end of the NXN meet wouldn't you say?
I mean ya never know, these schools/ teams your talking about don't have much of a chance to be players in the meet.
Yeah the Niwot girls didn’t place very high when they were an at large…..
come on man, it’s a tough meet to make with the 2 autos in some regions. These at large teams are quality programs!
I remember how Carmel IN boys got pimped in 2008. York and Naperville North won the regional and Carmel was third only 4 points behind NN and didn't get selected. Then York and NN went 2-3 in the finals, plus an Indiana runner from Fishers took 7th overall. It was easily the strongest regional. They gave the Northeast and Cali two at-larges each and all four of them finished far back in the lower half of the final.
I predict that there will be none from New York.
do they use dyestat rankings at to choose at-large bids?
