Could they? Sure. Odds of it happening? 15-20%. Wayzata historically run well when the stakes are high in championship races. Have done it time and again and winning is second nature to that program at this point. As for Minnetonka's track record I won't speak.
oAnother factor to consider is the boost Wayzata should receive later this season as Parker Dietrick rounds into racing shape, having returned to action recently. Their weakness as of now is certainly their lack of a 5, and Parker should significantly bolster that position if he can get back to his best. Dietrick finished 33rd last year at the State meet. The truth is Wayzata have a legit shot at placing all 5 in the top 25 this fall, which would make them virtually untouchable. I heavily favor them to win AAA and really like their odds of securing another NXN berth.
5 in the top 25 would be cool.
Wayzata boys team had 6 in the top 25 in 2017, and their girls team had 7 in the top 20 in 2013 when they won NXNLast year Rosemount had 4 in the top 20. If their 5th got 21st (right behind their 4th), Wayzata still would have beaten Rosemount by 3.

Here are all rankings for the week, no huge surprises for guys. Pretty much order of Griak finish for teams/individuals.
Crazy the top 3 Class AA teams are in the same section...

Mankato East didn't run their 5th either. Pretty fast times for 4 days post-Griak for East and 3 days post-race for BP.
Also, impressive that JH winner is a 6th grade from Mankato West. 8:40 for 2400m.

Wayzata girls team still dominated without Gullickson
Minnetonka's James Thomas, who dropped 100 places in the last mile, was sick all week, leading to a rough day, with Thomas at full health, they could easily pull off the upset.

They are in 3AA now. same section as Minnehaha and St Thomas Academy.
