Herniation is when the outer membrane of the disc gets broken, and the disc leaks as a result. The leaking gel-like material can irritate the nerves. Besides that potential issue, with either a herniation or bulge, the disc might press upon nerves, causing various problems, like limb weakness and lower limb ‘referred pain’.
I had a bulge at L5-S1. I was given a special training modality (performed in water) that helped when marathon training.
NYC Marathon, with its hills, could be an additional concern for a marathoner possessing either a problematic disc bulge or herniation.
Rupp mentioned that Kipchoge is 40 and still a beast but Kipchoge has been relatively injury free.
Galen has a herniated disc and does not like the surgery option. I agree that we will know a ton by the time he comes off Queensboro bridge.
I still think he is capable of breaking the AR in the next 18 months.
Galen has NO CHANCE of breaking the AR in the marathon. The fanboys never learn. You clowns are the same ones who said for a decade that Galen would break the outdoor AR at 5000m. It was never going to happen. Galen is not who he used to be as an athlete. He admits it. As far as Gault asking about Alberto being suspended, it was the best question in the interview. It is the elephant in the room. Galen went from being very affable or cheerful to becoming rather serious and icy. It revealed everything. Galen knows Alberto cheated for his athletes. Galen got uncomfortable because he was now being deceptive (not that Galen necessarily knew about sexual assaults), but he damn well knew Alberto was shady in terms of PEDs and so it always makes him uncomfortable. Well done Gault.
Honestly lost a lot of respect for J. Gault - what a piece of garbage. Two fing questions about Alberto - just looking for clickbait. Galen is a champion, you are a schmuck - just another example of brutal journalism by LetsRun.
Willing to ask Rupp about Alberto, but not Schumacher/Flanagan about Shelby. The hypocrisy is real!

Now we know the secret to 'being first American in every marathon he finishes.' Drop out when you know you can't and won't be. Technically true: always finishes as first American. Also true: doesn't always finish.
