Henes has always had the reputation of being a good recruiter and bad coach. Nearly everyone who has follwoed the sport for a long time will tell you that.

That's exactly right. And don't forget the bonus points for moving up late in the race. 90th after moving up is worth more than 90th after falling back.
I think there are many teams with many athletes underperforming relative to their HS accomplishments. I prefer not to sling mud so I will not throw out names. But they are there throughout NCAA. And there are teams who take underdeveloped HS athletes and develop them nicely. Some might say Bush of NC St is in that group. As was Henes, Vess, Shaw. Is it as simple as good coaching vs bad? I doubt it.
Henes is not a good coach. Just look at her daughter already jumping Tuohy.
Great logic, bright boy. Elly Henes is what, like 3-4 years older than Tuohy? Also, Elly is now at altitude and is no longer racing the busy schedule that is required of collegiate athletes. She can taper for races better and train more efficiently. The same happens with a lot of athletes once they go professional.
Rauber was a top 5 scorer on a national champion team and ran well at Nationals, gaining 17 places in the last k. I'd say that is very successful.
The narrative has gone from NC State will have 5 in the top 20 and under 50 points to Rauber being 90th proves good coaching.
What are you whining about? What team won the meet? The last I heard it only matters what the top 5 finishers places add up to. If you want style points perhaps you should become a gymnastics or diving fan.

1 - for a long time NC state was a 2nd tier program, making NCAA from weak region, but no threat to podium. Good results w/ ok recruits. The only hs star I can think of is Frazier, so who are these top recruits I am missing?
2- with Chmiel, Tuohy/Starliper, Rauber top recruits started to roll in, and with this came podium appearances: 2020 2nd place, 2021 champ, 2022 champ.
3- if you were advising a recruit, where would you recommend they enroll for better coaching and injury free running?

Their first 4 runners at nationals (Tuohy, Chmiel, Bush, Mareno) ran well enough to score under 50, scoring 40. The prediction of around 50 included having a healthy Starliper. If she was healthy, 50 was feasible.
A smart and fast girl should choose a school like Florida. But most of the NC State women likely couldn't get admitted.
😂 lmao
Tuohy was at the top 1-2% of her high school class and could have gone anywhere she wanted. Chmiel is an outstanding student with a 4.0 at NC State, winning the “Elite 90” award (prestigious NCAA award honoring athletes for excellent academics), while at NC State.
Nevada Mareno committed to Stanford out of high school, before transferring to NC State.
That’s regarding just a few of the top Wolfpack team members. I’m sure most of the others are great students as well. The women’s XC team routinely has the highest GPA of any athletic team at NC State.
BYU - if you are not Mormon, or at least a serious Christian, can be a tough place to live. Since we are talking about Starliper and injury, how is Jenna Hutchins doing?
OSU - Isn't this the program that ruined German Fernandez? Recently injured Isai Rodriquez, and pretty much wasted his talent while there? Where's Grace Ping and Molly Born? OSU could have won this year with one of them healthy and scoring at #5.
Instead, Henes' reclamation project Nevada Moreno finished 24th and all-american to bail out the Wolfpack. Good transfer recruit, and patient coaching to return her to form.
Wisconsin - nice job on health with Sarah Disanza. The current recruiting and coaching led them to 17th place in 2022, with top runner 77th place (would be NC st's 6th runner). Madison is a great place to attend college. New recruits can be part of the rebuilding effort.
NAU - Probably the best running program, but as you like to point out, it's not Stanford, or Florida for academics. While Stearns had a great year, what happened to Taryn O'Neil? And Stephanie Cotter went backwards, too at NAU before transferring back to Adams, where she just won D2 nat's. With these 2 ladies in top form, NAU could also have won this year.
Tuohy didn't get into Stanford and Mareno got in with her legs and then transferred out. Every poster here tells every runner to choose their school based on academics except when it comes to NC State women.
