You may have seen an earlier post of mine where I ran a 1:17 on a very windy day, but I've set a new goal of a sub 1"14 half marathon before my birthday in May. I think my 1:17 was worth a low 1:15 effort seeing as to I ran a few 6:50's into the win and closed in like a 16:40 5k. Currently I think I'm in much better shape even just being 6 weeks later. I recently solo'd a 15:30 5k (negative splits) and have done a few workouts including:
15 miles @ 6:15 on rolling hills
10k tempo @ 5;39 on rolling hills and closing in 5:19
10 mile tempo @ 5:44 negative split (didn't hurt until last uphill mile also rolling hills)
A ton of irrevelvant speed stuff like 4x1200 @3:38 and 400s and 800s (since I'm also training for a 5k )
Anyhow my mileage is in the mid 40's because I'm coming into some big xc bases but I built a big base at 80mpw all summer.
So my question is do you think I'm in sub 1:14 shape now? If not what can I do to get into shape for that? Please don't critque training for a half on top of XC but I have a super good base and I'd like to run a good race after only running 1:17.
