How sad that some mod deleted Roger Biebert's tour de force critique. I wept, I laughed, I wept some more. Thank you Roger for helping me to appreciate the many layers to the SJD Eggsperience!

This is an outrage! Free Nelson Mandela Roger Biebert!!!
I wonder why he holds onto stuff (especially old shoes) for so long. There’s no way it’s just to hold up V1 of a shoe next to V4 of a shoe for 15 seconds in a video. Donate/giveaway some of that gear!
He actually did say in a video awhile back that he keeps them all exactly for that V1 vs V4 comparison. The problem is he has zero organization around it. I remember footage of his kids carrying all those loose shoes from the house to the car when they were moving. Then he just piled them up in a storage container. So even if he did get around to V1 vs V4 he could never find either of the shoes.
I'm gonna be honest, I stopped watching his videos a while back (unsubscribed and didn't want to give his channel any extra interaction). I just stop by in this thread every now and then, so this is actually the first time I've watched that video. It's actually quite ridiculous to think he got up, drove an hour and a half to Loveland, just to set up a bunch of camera shots of him getting out of his car and walking 300m. At least he had the music right. It was very appropriate for what a joke that was. This is what happens when he's so set on posting a video every single day. Literal nothing content.
"Poncho Walk" might be the Citizen Kane of our time. One can almost feel the deep longing for rosebud the old shed when everything was so simple and innocent. Look forward to Roger Biebert's expert analysis. *insert popcorn gif here*

I had posted it, but like the morning review, it was removed by censors.

This is an outrage! The censorship from the brojo oozes privilege.
It must be nice in those ivory tower built on the backs of hard working folks like Biebert.
Your overall take on the UltraSignup ranking is a good one. However, it is not even as complex as you have indicated. It is just the Winner's time in an event divided by your time. From UltraSignup:
"What is runner rank and how is it calculated? Runner rank is simply an average of your past results in our database. Rank is calculated using past results in our database. For each race, we take the gender specific best time(winner) and divide that time by each participant's time. The result is a value less than 100% with winners receiving the full 100%. The average of the participant's past races is their ranking."
No weighting for competiveness of the race, or recency of race results. Seth's ranking is lower because he has results from a period of time when he was not as competitive, possibly just getting serious about trail running. Those race results will always pull his ranking down quite a bit compared to where he likely should be based on the Pike's Peak wins. We will see what his current form is soon. There may not be a lot of 'stars' in the Fourmidable 50K start list, but it is solid. Seth will need to be in good form to get top 5, and really, really good form to get 1 of the top 2 spots.

I think that a certain LRC insider is trying to get this thread deleted. Roger Biebert was giving it new life and fresh entertainment value. The insider is trying to snuff that momentum.
It will be interesting to see what happens on race day in a good 3 weeks. Trail ultraraces are impossible to predict. I think there is a possibility that Seth ends up in the top 5 but I would be really surprised if he gets one of the two team spots. Seth should know how to train at this point. Let's just see how this will turn out.

I spent a bit of time looking into ultras, as I really have not followed the sport, but there does seem to have been (maybe in the past) a history of successful ultra runners who just did a ton of miles as their training, so much so that sometimes they would end up with over-training syndrome. Geoff Roes appears to have become very successful with that approach and Rob Krar seemed the same. I think Anton Krupicka was all about just putting in a ton of miles too.
I don't know if things have changed, and this is just my own ignorance of the sport, but there does seem to be an approach to training for running ultras. by some successful people, which is different than marathons - they just go out there and run huge mileage. It could be that this is what Seth is doing and that it is not without precedent.
Someone more familiar with ultra history and training is very welcome to correct me on all of this.
