If you’re not already a mid/forefoot striker, some of the shoes will not make you faster and may even slow you down.
Absolutely false. Heel strikers benefit just as much as anyone else, and all of the current popular shoes intended for marathon racing are going to be much faster than a traditional marathon flat.
Adios Pro 3, Next%, Metaspeed Sky, and Endorphin Pro 3 seem to be the consensus top marathon shoes right now. Pick whichever one of those feels best on your feet.
Sorry but I think you’re wrong, depending on which shoe you’re talking about. I can speak directly about the Adios Pro 3 as I’ve put a lot of mileage on those. I would absolutely never recommend this shoe to a heel striker. Narrow, firm heel, zero stability add ons, high stack, etc. I would think running downhill fast in the Pro 3 being a heel striker would be a scary experience.
Other shoes like the Alphafly v2 can easily accommodate heel striking.
