Why do people keep on hitting on the Kenyan age thing, surely if its a problem in Kenya then its a problem in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda etc... these countries have around the same infastructure in terms of registering births and deaths. The important issue is that the Kenyans are the ones who go on to be successful at senior level so surely they are the most legitimate? They are not JUST competitive at junior level. This is the crux of the argument, if the Kenyans were ONLY good at junior level and had no descent seniors I could understand the argument, but they aren't, surely it makes sense that the country with the worlds greatest distance runners and tremendous strength in depth is going to also be the country with the worlds greatest junior distance runners its common sense isn't it? An 18 year old Kenyan could actaully have 13 years of steady conditioning behind him, this is very different to an American or European teenager, surely this means in terms of development at a young age they are way way ahead of us. To be honest I think you could go to a Kenyan high school and look at 16 year olds and they would be more than competitive at world junior level, you only have to look at the WXC champs, the Kenyan junior womens team often has athleets as young as 13 or 14 yet they are still at the front of the field.
