Looks like Seymour is doing those workouts with Aaron/Lex/Leo.
Their 5th (doshi) is very far behind. But with Cantu. I don’t know who the guy in the blue is (the guy doing workouts with dev and cantu at the beginning)
the clovis results don’t seem on par with what happened in the workout.
At Clovis, Seymour was far behind sahlman unlike in the workout. Doshi was closer to Seymour than in the workout (even though he fell)
cantu was wayyyyyyyy farther behind Doshi than he was in this workout. Even though he isn’t scoring, at nxn he should race like he is scoring.
I would like to congratulate Brayden Seymour on his best race of the season by far. He absolutely killed that race (workout). I hope they put it on his Milesplit or athletic.net account.
No congrats to Cantu? He was able to keep up with Doshi in this workout. Best race of the season by far. Huge accomplishment for him. Show him some respect
I guess the brilliant coaching is to create as tough a workout as possible, have everyone run it as hard as they can and some will improve and others will get chewed up and spit out like Martinez and Simone.
Where is the rest of the team? Do you need to qualify to do these workouts with the top runners? Is it a choice? How does that work?
I heard third hand from someone that lives in the area that the JV kids are basically left to themselves and get no attention. Hope that's not the case, but doesn't look good in this video.

Doesn’t look good for next year. But doesn’t matter because I see other CA boys teams going to nxn next year.
I hope their girls team does well next year. 1 senior this year and mostly juniors
I wonder what happened to Seymour at Clovis. He was only 3-5 seconds off Lex and Leo during the 2ks. According to that he shoulda been right with aaron. Maybe an off day?

If you check the splits in the race, his 2nd mile was a huge positive split compared to his first. He just went out too fast and wasn't in the shape he thought he was.
Also what other guy said is valid; he was probably putting in more effort in that workout than them (even though L&L said it was tough for them). If he was going all out to get those 2K times, than it's clear why he bonked a bit after the 2K in the actual race.
The video is an L & L production, not a production of NPHS. It reflects Leo and Lex Young and their training, in this case. It so happens that a few other teammates are running alongside them in their workouts but it's still about L & L. As to the non- varsity kids I have no direct knowledge of what goes on there. However, I do remember watching one of the Big Bear videos prior to Sean Brosnan's departure. In the video you see him calling out the splits during one of their training runs. He's there for the top guys, and he's there for the others behind.

The kids at Big Bear are vying for varsity spots, not the JV kids. What about the kids who don't get to go to Big Bear? Who was calling splits for them while Brosnan was at Big Bear for a month of their summer training?

There are solid programs where jv kids do get attention. like Wayzata MN has many kids on the team, but there are lots of coaches. Way more than 2.
The problem at NP is that, although not as many boys go out for the team (and like 5 sophomores and 6 seniors), it’s Co-Ed and the girls team has the same attention too

Based on how many juniors improved from last year and by how much, you can tell how badly many of them wanted to be one of the 7 runners on the best team in the nation, and not wait until next year, even though not many varsity spots have opened up.
guys like shetty and schohn dropped a ridiculous amount of time from last year

In The Running Effect Podcast I they said they get up at 4:30 some mornings for workouts. In the video you can see they're at the track before the sun is even up, so it looks like they were telling the truth. My guess is the JV guys can't/aren't willing to get to school that early. I had to ride the bus to school, and once I could drive I had a part time job, so I definitely understand JV guys not getting up for a 5am workout. My guess is that anyone's allowed to come to morning workouts, and the reason it's only the top guys there is because only the top guys are "all in" to the point they'll go to workouts at 5am. The type of person to go to a 5am workout is probably also the type of person to recover right, eat right, injury prevention, etc.
I know Sean said he'd hold morning and afternoon workouts to make sure he could be there for everyone's workout. Since they do some doubles, I'd bet anyone who doesn't go to the morning workout does it in the afternoon while the others get their double in. It also probably lets the coaches pay more attention to the JV guys. Of course, it's possible that the coaches just throw everyone except the top 7 to the wolves, but given the depth they've had for years now, I'd bet it's more likely they pay attention to everyone.
There's a lot of people who say NP just got lucky with talent. They definitely got lucky, but what other HSs hold 5am workouts so the top guys can double and the JV guys can get focus from the coaches? I know my school didn't, nor did any other school in our section. There's probably sub 8:50 talent at every HS with 2k+ students, but not every HS with 2k+ students is putting in the effort that NP is.

I'm not sure if this post is supposed to be criticizing NP/Brosnan. It's worded pretty aggressively but the substance of the question is simple. The answer is that it's summer. Families go on vacation. A lot of kids don't want to spend a month of their break training for cross country. Anyone who didn't go to Big Bear but wanted to train probably just got told to do some easy runs/long runs/fartleks. Also, you can watch the videos from Big Bear, there's plenty of JV kids there who won't make varsity.
My HS did a 5 day XC camp at a lake in the summer and it was cheaper than any vacations my family took. It's the price of a 12 bedroom house, but split between 30 guys. Anyone who couldn't make to XC camp for whatever reason was just supposed to run on their own. I don't know why people make such a big deal out of it bruh.
