You think you boxed me in with your R. Dixon example? R. Dixon went from 5000m specialist to Marathon, not 1500m specialist to Marathon. A big difference.

Ummmm . 3:33 and OLY bronze. I'd say there was a time he was a 1500 Specialist!
She's 59th all-time, 3000m. She's tied for 303rd all-time 10 miles. 1/2 Marathon is very competitive. Let's see her get in the top 250 all-time 1/2 Marathon before we make her a Marathoner.
She ran 52:16 last year which makes her tied for 56th all-time at 10 miles, a bit different than 303rd. Not that any of what you said really matters.
Jenny Simpson is 36 and 3+ years past her prime. If she runs 68:xx/2:24:xx it will be fantastic; I’m legitimately not disrespecting her, just trying to establish fair expectations for a veteran 1500 runner like Simpson.

It still doesn’t make sense to think that Jenny can be world class in the marathon just because Dixon was able to do it 40 years ago. She can run some solid times, qualify for the trials, and put a nice capstone on an all time great track career. But if you really think she can win New York and get 10th in the Olympics like Rod did then you’re being willfully ignorant or just don’t really know what you’re talking about.
Come on Rojo! Do you like simply taking threads away from other posters?
I can't help it that many posters haven't spent years developing a brand name on letsrun like yours truly. ;) When I post, it gets a response.
The man is now trolling about his trolling. It is as if Trump were to say when he posts on Truth Social, he gets a response. Both Trump and Rojo seem to believe they are EF Hutton…

I've now merged two threads together. The other thread was titled, "Jenny Simpson Wins Army Ten Miler" Before I started my thread, I looked to see if there was a thread on it. I didn't see it. It's because it had fallen to page 2.

Man are you paranoid if you think I was boxing you in. His bio pointed out that a 1500 runner has eventually moved up to the marathon and in Dixon's case was a force in the event.
As for Simpson, she's competed successfully from 1500 on upwards, AR in the steeple, 9:16 for 2 miles, sub 15:00 for 5000 just two years ago. There's certainly a sample that says it can be done and she obviously is pointing towards longer races.

Jenny is just trying to get money. Let us be honest. Jenny knows that is what she is doing. Nothing wrong with it but she knows this is not about being world class again.

But you must also admit it would be hard for anyone else to develop a brand when you keep removing their threads and re-branding them under your name. I think from a promotional standpoint you would want more posters to create threads but this discourages them. I think if you accidentally duplicate a thread you should allow the original thread to exist and remove yours instead.

Not many American mzungos are world class, but that doesn't mean she can't be one of the better Americans.
People seem stuck on her ability to move up. While Jenny was a 1500m specialist, she also has a steeple/Wetmore training background. I don't think going to a half marathon, for example, is a stretch at all.
And why shouldn't she be able to accomplish what Janet Bawcom, Molly Huddle or even Kiera D'Amato have? She will race dramatically less often than in a track season. And there are many different paths to success on the roads. Just because it hasn’t (often) been done before, doesn’t mean it can’t be done.

Moving up is not the issue. If Jenny was 25 I could see a 2:20 in her future. Jenny is not a great runner anymore and it is only going to get worse.
She won. She got paid. She was slow. She sucks. LRC logic at it's best.
Probably worth noting that there is no prize money at Army 10 Miler. They used to have an elite field which was really just local elites (it was nice - tent, private bag check, comped entry) but I understand they did away with that this year.
I don't believe Army has ever done appearance fees, though I don't know that for certain.

You have it backwards. She is not a great middle distance runner anymore. That skill set has diminished. However long road races are a different skill set and speed isn't necessary to succeed. Her training background over the years alone give her a nice base to build upon. That's why she's moving up.

Jenny cannot handle the requisite training any more. She has had her shot at being a good runner. Injuries and aging will prevent anything other than mediocrity.
Those who are saying this isn't a good result because it's "only" 2:22 pace (Rojo) are stupid - a win is a win, and this is the first result I have seen in a while for Jenny, so all good in my book.
