This transition should be interesting to follow. She's been sprinting for awhile. Now she has to practice patience over a longer distance. Hopefully she'll share some post race blogs discussing her experiences.
So what if some of us think Jenny is finished. I suppose if one said Centro was finished (and he is younger than Jenny) then you would be here to tell us we are full of s- - t. Some of us can tell when a runner is finished and if you have a contrary opinion so be it. By finished I mean she will be a mediocrity on the national stage for a couple of years and then it will get worse until maybe age group awards at 40 if she still cares. This does not mean I don’t think she was a great runner in her prime.
Jenny Simpson the clean runner who couldn’t break 4 until she was almost 28. She ran 4:32 the year she turned 20.
Never let facts get in the way of your narrative. So many posts in this thread disgust me.
Simpson broke 4:00 in college at the age of 22.
In another post, someone said Puma's NC group wasn't doing well. I've been SUPER impressed by their results in year 1. It amazes me that people expect A+ results from B talent. The Craggs are doing a great job. Fiona O'Keeffe has been unreal.
I think this is a good outcome for all involved. Jenny was making well north of 500k per year. Is she worth that in terms of results, now? Hell no. But does she give Puma credibility? Hell yes.
Puma, do you have a Pbax trainer? Send it to me. I may wear it as I restart my career in the marathon. JG has said I'll never break 3:00. I know I will.
Puma actually has many of the very biggest stars in track and field: Duplantis, Warholm, Emmanuel Korir, Barshim and Tamberi, Thompson-Herah, Shericka Jackson, Mahuchikh. Americans Sandi Morris and JuVaughn Harrison. Also, Bolt may be retired, but he has a lifetime contract with Puma. Yesh, short on distance runners though.
The biggest thing I've learned from this thread is that Emmanuel Korir is a Puma athlete. I like to think I'm pretty informed on the sport and was aware of all the others mentioned, but had no idea of Korir, so thanks for mentioning!
Looking at his Instagram it appears he was still with Nike at worlds but shortly after that he switched to Puma but did not announce the sponsor change until September.
Does Puma have a mid-distance superspike now? I know they have a legit road racer, but last I heard from their tech was how Warholm ran his 45.94 in a spike of the past with no plate because they didn't have one yet. People also speculated Steiner was running a little slower since switching from Nikes at Kentucky to Pumas. Korir was still very successful this season after switching to Puma spikes so I am curious if they have something or if Korir is just that good.
If anyone knows about their track spike developments let me know. Right now it seems the best mid-distance spikes on the market are the Nike Zoom Victory and the NB FuelCell MD-X along with the ON spike that had a very limited release in Switzerland but seems legit. Would love to see another option in the mix for 800m runners.
Does everyone remember when Jenny first signed with NB? They made a shoe in her name and asked her are you going to change your name to Simpson or stick with Barringer as she was engaged at the time. She said DEFINITELY STICKING WITH BARRINGER. NB then proceeded to create the “Barringer” training shoe and a marketing campaign around it. Jenny then changed her mind after NB had done the work. They even ran the NB games with huge posters of Jenny Barringer all over the walls and the Barringer shoe big enough for TV coverage and Jenny racing on the track with Simpson on her bib. Awkward. A NB shoe designer told me “never again”.
Good for Jenny, a new sponsor and a new plan for the roads.
Some of y’all bashing her now for these new changes in her career, are the same ones who’d be bashing her if she just crumbled after the fires in her town and retired from running all together.
She's desperate to maintain relevance in the sport and keep up her athletic image and Puma is desperate for a name athlete to promote given how crappy their NC project is going plus how much Molly Seidel has fallen off the map in the past year. Seems like a perfect match. It won't nudge me any closer to trying Puma gear, which is probably just fine, but I can see it bringing some soccer mom types into their customer base.
Thats actually a smart choice and that shows how clueless you are. Deviate Nitro Elite just won bronze at the Olympics....
In addition - the Puma range is pretty good, is well priced, and the grip on their shoes is the best around by a mile, hands down.
Hey mouth-breather, nothing in your post refuted or contradicted anything in the post you were responding to. You’d have to have shít for brains to fail to see that.

Please elaborate on posts which are bashing Jenny. I don’t believe that Matthew Centrowitz will ever be a world class runner again. If this is what you consider to be bashing then the only way not to bash for some of us is to lie or be silent.
If never being a world class marathoner is finished, then you’re right. She’s probably finished. But unless she just keeps getting hurt, there’s no reason she can’t run some good times. She can qualify for the trials and be a human interest piece that they cut to in the pack and talk about like she has a chance. Like Lagat at the last one.

OK I did miss that but my point still stands that her trajectory is a bit suspicious for her to be pointing fingers at others. Maybe she was clean but she is FINISHED.
Trajectory is a bit suspicious!
she ran 3.59 for 1500 as a college steeplechaser. As a pro she switched to the 1500 and train and ran it for a decade and lower her PB to 3.57.
It’s hard to think of a trajectory less suspicious.

I was willing to drop it BUT if you insist on going there girl…it is the college trajectory that is suspicious as hell. Then the Dr. Brown connection? Come on now.

Have you heard of the Olympian and medalist Jenna Prandini?
I had no idea who this Jenna person was. Had to google her
Sounds to me that NB is really pulling back from sponsoring professionals. They got hurt badly by being passed by in the super shoe arms race and probably decided to sponsor races instead of individuals. Jenny probably got lowballed and felt insulted and put herself on the market.
NB used to have a whole crew of women. No more. Having second-tier shoes hurts.
good on Jenny . But a little sad that she couldn’t retire with NB. And that shoe tech is so important now.
Well I feel like an idiot after Sisson's run. (Assuming she had on NB shoes. )
Jenny Simpson has left her long-time sponsor New Balance for Puma.Message board discussion here: https://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=11551847T...
Puma's are legit! I have ran in two pairs of the Velocity Nitro v1 and have about 200 miles on v2. It's a great shoe. Those who doubt, try them. I also have raced a marathon and 10k in the Deviate Nitro Elite. Fantastic racer. Good for her. Doctors of Running gave positive reviews of both shoes.
