The Olympics are the Olympics. If there is a medal to “incentivize” doping, no sport is safe. Cheaters gonna cheat, particularly if highly incentivize you do so.
@wejo - I don’t normally agree with most of the potshots that people take at you guys, but I think they’re on to something here. The Aden story involved many people and some more accessible to you. I do feel at times there is a curious difference in the way that LetsRun pursues certain things. You were hell bent on keeping Steve Mullins out of the NCAAs and you guys seem to defend Shelby. You’ve gone after Gatlin and gave Rupp tons of sh!t for years. You seem to have a ‘forgive and forget’ vibe with some people but not others.
I’m not suggesting malfeasance. It’s just curious. And it is your site, so your rules. As a person who’s been here a long time, I think there are some inconsistencies that would be worth looking at and maybe deciding if the site should take more consistent editorial positions.
1) Steve Mullins was a convicted drug cheat. All we wanted was the NCAA to honor WADA suspensions.
2) You say we defend Shelby. Well we also made a shirt mocking the excuse.
3) What do you want me to do with Aden? On the podcast, Jonathan Gault seeems to imply he's guilty. My response is,"If they raid the hotels and don't charge him. I assume they didn't have anything concrete." Either that or the Spanish authorities are corrupt but then why raid to begin with?
The reality is the Aden case is the perfect example of this. It's VERY hard to catch a doper in the act. Why didn't the OTC folks didn't say anything earlier? WEll look at the NOP folks. Magness was suspicious but he didn't have PROOF. Neither did Kara, etc. Same thing here. Same thing with Aden.
Even with the Huntington case. We don't know they were given PEDs. Nor do the athletes. For all we know they were getting B12 injections. In terms of the OTC, I heard a rumor that the coaches found out someone had a TUE they didn't know about were irate about it as they thought that was shady and they were told to go elsewhere. ISo good for them if that's what happened, but even if that's true, guess what, a TUE is legal whether you or the coaches like it or not.
Weldon thought he saw an elite pro go into a portalet at NYC Marathon with a fake urine bag. He reported it. Nothing.

How is it that we still don't know why LJ was kicked out of the club? Did she even get kicked out, or is that just a false rumor?
If she were kicked out for using peds, does no one want to say because they think it will make the club look bad? It seems to me that it would make the club look better... that they take doping seriously.

Reminds me we need to send the money.
The money going to her was a total copout. Some internally didn't like the fact of us profiting off her situation so the compromise was to send money to her defense.
And I support the right of every athlete to defend themselves no matter what. Sort of like I support the right of free speech I disagree with.
This woman has many issues. The biggest one is staying married to a man who had sexual relations with underaged women, forced them to dope and kidnapped them across state lines. Who the F stays married to jerks like that and doesn't report the crimes??? She's as sick as Nick is

But I think our attempt to not offend failed.
Hi wejo,
What happened to the questions for Houlihan that you asked me to provide? No response, am I right?

Why does Nick stay married to Lauren? She IS such a mess. I guess they deserve each other.

Weak and putrid response. This site has deteriorated over time. It’s turned from an information gathering site about running to a cess pool of right wing racism and extremism. And crap reporting.

You think? You failed miserably. Worse than the Hindenburg.

They clearly have too much dirt on each other for either party to part ways. Sick and twisted.

What gives?
Anyone?
If you read this thread, Rojo comes the closest to giving an answer. He says he's "heard rumors" that LJ got a TUE without running it by her coaches; according to the rumor, when the coaches found out, they sent her on her way.

Surely someone besides Rojo has heard things.
Can't put names to it, but speaking with a former OTC athlete that something came to Rowland's attention and that Rowland wanted to drop Johnson earlier but Nike said he had to coach her through worlds.
Then at Worlds, Johnson was eliminated and Rowland waited for her at the warmup track and right there told her that she and her husband had to pack their bags and not to come near OTC again.
It definitely was not amicable or just her not being re-signed. The club wanted them both gone.
Rojo and his journalists can follow up on that story.

If that is true, it doesn't mean that OTC took doping seriously.
They probably just got rid of someone they viewed as a problem. Maybe the TUE was out of line with what their program was and Johnson was a risk. If OTC was actually doping or doing grey area stuff it was probably highly controlled.
My guess is Lauren Johnson was doping in what was deemed a highly reckless manner, taking high dosages with Nick's help, and likely had a positive that was brushed under the table. That would explain being fired in such an abrupt way.
Unfortunately, it only takes a couple of no character clowns to run a rogue college program and drag the integrity of college distance running into the mud. Take any of the NCAA top 15 in the 1500, give them epo and steroids, and all of them will run low 4:00s. That is the stark reality. Just up to now no one has been low life enough to try it, until these sickos showed up. And it will fly completely under the radar of the USADA and AIU. Do they even know about the HU scandal?
