Leo will take the victory since he has the better kick. He's beaten Lex every time it mattered last year by a second or two.
No way to tell order of 3-5. Did Seymour make the jump up? Was Sahlman injured or is his fitness just down from last year. Is Doshi in better shape or were the other 2 just doing tempo at that one meet?
Sahlman is actually coming back from an injury based on Brayden’s interview.
Agreed that Cantu at #6 will be a lock. Another thing that seems to be a lock is that their 7th man will be Arnav Shetty. For this meet at least. In this race he actually CRUSHED the competition for the seventh spot. No one on this team seemed to come close. 15:18 is actually a pretty good time for someone part of the best team in the nation. https://ca.milesplit.com/meets/486692-temecula-twilight-2022/results#.YzkUFXbMKUk
I too think Leo will win. He got second at nationals last year and this will make him hungrier to try to be the best in the nation (better than Lex) and win it. I think it will be in this order:
I wonder why transfer Brandon Guevara didn’t run any races this fall. I know he is ineligible for varsity until October 3rd. But there was a JV race for him to take part of in this meet. And in some other meets that NP went to.

Guevara started the year as the 2nd fastest non senior of the team (2021 PB 15:52) and he was expected to be NP’s #7 man if Martinez did not come back. But he is now ranked 7th in the non seniors and is on the bubble to make varsity next year. Of course we will see where he stands when he actually races.
Speaking on next year, Keep in mind that they have a whole track season before next fall. Porter could possibly become their #2 next year (even if he doesn’t make varsity this year) if he drops his track times from last spring and stays healthy. Guevara ran a 10:02 / 4:35 in track (better then any nonsenior except porter and doshi) so he too could drop some more track time and score well for them next year. There is also a sophomore who ran a 4:39 in the 1600 but he has been perhaps one of the most inconsistent runners at NP. He ran a 16:41 first race last year, and had a 16:27 PR. At marmonte he only dropped 19 seconds from last year’s marmonte time. Both times were in the 17s. He doesn’t seem to be making much progress. He hasn’t even raced in the last couple of meets while all his JV teammates have, but who knows, maybe he will finally put together a good, consistent season next fall and crack their top 5. His only 3200 time that he ever had was an 11:35. Perhaps anything over 1600 meters is starting to get too long for him? A person who can’t run a better time than this wouldn’t make Southlake Carroll’s D team. Class of 2025 at np has gotten from irrelevant to even more irrelevant. Seems like the best case scenario next year for NP is: Doshi, Porter, Shetty and Guevara will be a very good top 4 if they keep progressing. All are class of 2024. They will just need a 5th. I can see a nonsenior step-up and join them. Making NXN will be hard but I’m sure those seniors will be up for a challenge, and I think they will look forward to it
A very good top 4? You mean a very good top 4 for their league, right? Doshi is good, but the rest of those guys are far, far away from being the caliber it takes to make it to NXN. Porter, Shetty and Guevara are a long way from breaking 16 at somewhere like Woodward Park. Qualifying for State is not a gimme with that crew.
hillrunner.com seems like a cute little calculator, but it doesn't have a conversion for the course he ran yesterday to Woodward Park. Trust me, 15:18 at the Temecula Twilight doesn't convert to sub 16 at Woodward Park.
Also, having the 6th fastest group of non senior 3 mile times at this point in the season means very little. NP park kids have run 3 of the fastest courses in CA while a huge percentage of schools in the state have not run any of them.

Looks like Guevara is entered the riverside invite and got a 16:08 seed. This is slower than his personal best. And he hasn’t even run a race yet this season
apparently there’s a sophomore without a seed time that must have joined the Newbury team pretty late.
Cantu goes from a 14:44 at Woodbridge to 16:15 in this race…what in the world
They all ran badly
Agreed. Cantu ran the worse
Sahlman, Doshi and Seymour also ran very slow
Shetty was also slow today.
Lex and Leo were not particularly bad, but very unimpressive
I doubt that SR’s for Doshi and Seymour will be above 180. Jesuit la had 4 under 180 (without vocke and healthy sampedro). Crawford (their 5 at Nike town) had an off day at that meet. They could get 7 above 180 this year if all are healthy.
even if Jesuit gets on their senses and chooses Nxn I think np’s 1-3 will outweigh their lackluster 4-5
maybe they all ran badly because it was their first actual race. Last time it was a tempo.
Shetty gotta get some props for going from 17s in the 3 mile to a 16:30 5k. But with this time he will probably finish near the bottom at nxn. Same with Cantù’s 16:15
Lex and Leo unimpressive? Leo was 1 second away from breaking GF’s course record. Did you expect both to break it?
Their girls team was much more impressive. Looks like they found their 5 girls

NP’s girls team was impressive? Of the 4 girls that ran Clovis last year, 3 ran slower and the other ran 5 seconds faster this year. They lucked out getting a solid freshman to step in this year.
I barely predicted the speed ratings for Doshi and Seymour correctly. 179. Those guys would have had a hard time making varsity for Jesuit LA based on their performance if Sampedro/Vocke/Crawford were all healthy

Clovis 2021 vs Clovis 2022- 2021 17:45.90 Ailish Hawkins 9th
17:57.00 Tiffany Sax 17th
19:23.90 Danielle Brotcke 82nd
19:44.60 Norah Lehto 101st
2022: 17:48.30 Ailish Hawkins 11th
17:52.80 Tiffany Sax 14th
19:21.00 Danielle Brotcke 66th
19:52.60 Norah Lehto 89th
Looks like Brotcke and Sax did a little better than last year. Brotcke dropped a few spots so probably not her best race. Lehto ran slower but somehow placed higher. I think this was the only time she raced with her top 7 last year. Doesn’t matter because she isn’t scoring this year. Sophia grant is a very valuable freshman. Maya N really stepped up from last year. She ran a faster time here than any of her 3 mile times last year. A teammate (who ran a little slower here than last year and is the only senior) even gave her a shoutout in an interview. The results for this year’s group are slower than last years group but that’s expected. They lost Sam McDonnell and 2 other scorers. And Spaulding is not even varsity this year somehow. Still hoping she gets back on varsity and ends up scoring at state. Would be nice to see happen
