Guevara’s 3 mile PB is 15:52 from last year, but maybe he is faster this year already. However, that time currently ranks him 11th on the NP squad (12th if you add Martinez). Therefore, I doubt that he will get a varsity spot for his first race.
I think at this point, Shetty seems to be in the best position. He was #2 for NP at Woodbridge and ran a 4:35 in track. There is a preseason article that says where the coaches say that he is going to surprise A LOT of people this year. No names of nonseniors that aren’t Doshi were mention
There is also a junior transfer Brandon Guevara who won’t get to race varsity until October 3, but he has the same 1600 PR as Shetty. These 2 could end up as finalists to fight for the 7th spot, unless porter and Martinez get healthy
I feel bad for Porter though. During track season it looked like he was getting pretty close to Cantu, with his sub-10 and his 4:26. In the end, he didn’t even make the Woodbridge roster. Maybe he is sick or injured? Well, at least he got another year. Or maybe Martinez will magically return to the team? Probably isn’t fit enough to score at this point, but best case scenario is he could be up there with Cantu. He must be in a situation that has no place for a senior. Gotta feel bad for him

Maybe the training at Guevara’s old school is not as good as the training at NP? Also doesn’t Sean still write the trainings for NP this year for the last time so they can win NXN?

Can someone that cares about NP please start a post “who will be NP’s number 7” so it doesn’t have to be the main topic on every CA high school thread?

The relevance of NP’s 7th guy is the following:
1 - NP is the strongest HS team in history. They are as strong as a decent NCAA team.
2 - They have also become a dynasty. If COVID had not occurred, they would/will have won 4 XC national championship in a row
3 - That dynasty will most likely go away as soon as next year, unless the #2 to #5 non seniors progress immensely in the next year.
4 - #2 to #7 have already progressed a lot since last year and tracking their progress will give a good indication of what 2023 may hold.
That’s why there is an interest in this year’s #7 (next year #2)

Fantastic insight for the NP fan boys, but what does it have to do with the Clovis invitational? Move the discussion to the NP specific threads. Killin me!!!

another thing is, if the guy that gets the 7th spot is a junior, it will be this junior’s first AND last national team championship ever, unless they recruit 3 guys on Doshi’s level next year (maybe seniors, which is the most common grade of people that come in and score right away for NP. Like Simone, Seymour, Darley, and Golmon for example). also, it wouldn’t be surprising if he finishes near the bottom at NXN this year, like Appleford did in 2018 and Sam McDonnell’s brother did in 2019. or, he will finish close to the 6th man like Doshi did at RunningLane last year.

Tomorrow is NP's next meet, at the Marmonte league cluster. Who do you think will be the 3rd sophomore runner? How about the 4th freshman?
Anyone know who the dates were for NP's 1-4 runners at homecoming last week?
I heard there is a 3r grader in Camarillo who may go to NP and has run a 6:50 mile. Do you think he'll break 4:00 as a senior? If they get any other 3rd graders that are good, do you think they can make a run at another NXN title in 2032?

Ok, let’s talk about Grenada Instead. some people believe they will come 2nd
Top runner has a 14:22 PB for 3 miles. Oh wait, he would be NP #4, maybe #5 and perhaps even #6.
Who knows, maybe he will even break 15min for 5k.
Let’s talk about that…
I fail to understand why that would be so much better.
The problem is that NP has now set the bar so very high. Other teams seem very weak.

Much better post. NP competing against Granada (and dominating them) is actually relevant. If NP’s 7th runner had a bearing on the Clovis results, that would also be relevant to the thread. Talking about NP’s potential 7th runner’s impact on 2023, is not relevant. Does that help you understand?
I have an interesting topic here. Where do you guys think the Clovis boys will place? This is their home meet which should give them an advantage. So they have Chris Caudillo as we all know. Heard in his interview that 3 juniors are doing workouts with him now. Their 5th runner (Watkins, senior) finished close to one of those juniors last meet. Not sure if he is doing workouts with them too. This 5th guy didn’t have much of a track season (probably sick or injured?) but last year he was their #3 nonsenior. They didn’t go to state last year. But that shouldn’t stop them from doing big things this year. Cause one team went from not making state in 2017 to winning state and finishing 6th at NXN in 2018. Here are Clovis’s 2 mile times from the last meet: https://ca.milesplit.com/meets/503022-golden-shoe-showdown-2022/teams/12166#.YzT12iVOkWM Notice that the 2-5 gap is a lot tighter than it was at Woodbridge.
Clovis’s #5 guy ran faster in this golden shoe showdown than Caudillo/Avila did in that same race last year.

Do you understand how irrelevant Granada is compared to NP? Gee, I wonder if they will finish 50 points or 100 points behind??? I really hope they finish 49 points behind that would be amazing. Not.
Does that help YOU understand how NP has completely changed the game?

Are you just flat out dumb? Read the title of the thread.

OK, let's see if we can help you out. The way message boards work is, someone starts a thread with a certain topic, ie - Clovis Invitational. People then respond to that thread with conversation focused on the topic, such as who will win, by how much, who are the serious competitors, information or gossip that might impact the outcome, historical information to put this year's topic into context, etc. NP winning by a record amount or breaking a team time record would be relevant. Might not be interesting, but is actually in line with the thread's topic.
Adding conversation about topics like who the top JV runner is, NXN in the past or future years, next year's team, how they have changed the game on the national scene, how good a team is in a context outside of the topic (Clovis Invitational) are not relevant.
I've heard NP is strong academic school. I guess there's reason to doubt that claim.
Here are mine. 1. Buchanan 2. JSerra Catholic 3. Newbury Park 4. Los Altos
I’ll put Los Altos a close second to Buchanan. L. Soobrian will be in the top five. Her Lil Sister is the difference maker. She is now their number two. Los Altos 3-5 are with in 10 second of each other in their two invitationals. If their 10:45 runner, Fadil, runs they then have the potentially have a 3-6 within 10 second of each other. Best case scenario is that Fadil is right with Lil Soobrian.
At Woodbridge Buchanan’s 4th was 20 seconds behind their 3 and their 5 was another 20 second behind their 4.
If Los Alto’ 3-6 run in the pack they have all season they just may over come the gap between Buchanan’s 3 and their number 5.
Buchanan does have the advantage of Woodward being their home course.
Win or lose it’s fun to see a CCS team doing so well.
I too could see Los Altos beating Newbury Park. NP has Hawkins/Sax/Brotcke back from last year and also gained an outstanding freshman (Grant). I wonder if Spaulding will be back racing. She raced at RunningLane with their top 7 but I saw nothing from her since then.
Los Altos getting close second to Buchanan? Well, if you see that happening, it would mean that they are close second to Buchanan in the country.
I don't see Clovis placing any higher than 6th unless their 4th and 5th race out of their minds. They seem to have the same issue they had in the 2004-2006 days with Mikel Thomas and Jonathan Peterson when they were butting heads with Madera all of the time but couldn't ever beat them because their last two scorers weren't quite fast enough to ever seal the deal. I am heavily biased and would love them to prove me wrong but there are 6 teams that ran faster than them at Woodbridge showing up not to mention possible big races by darkhorse teams not being discussed and the out-of-staters, too.
Individually I'm thinking 14:32 winning time from one of the Youngs and possibly 8 sub 15 overall: Young, Young, Sahlman (1440s again), Caudillo (high 14:40s), Rhone, Spradling, and maybe one of the Great Oak and Granada boys getting just under 15.
