For those of you that are slightly brain deficient, we are talking about the NEW shoes mechanical advantage that gave Kipchoge the new WR. We are not talking about the fact that he is currently the best men's marathon runner. 🤯
Except factually, that was only the 4th time ever run that was faster than the non "super-shoe" WR of Kimetto. It was also run by the guy who clearly is the best and greatest ever marathon runner of all time and is one of the best distance running talents the human race has ever seen.
I don't think anyone is disputing that footwear innovation has in particular had an impact on the road running world - but I doubt it's that much different in terms of magnitude than the impact air meshes, EVA and rubber outsoles had when they came became mainstream at their moments over the course of history.
Honestly, I don't even believe Kipchoge was wearing the best shoe he could have yesterday. Larger surface area, greater stack height offset by extra weight and ground force reduction - I've never thought the alpha iterations were better than the Vaporfly and that's also after having run in both for test purposes and having seen how they test in the lab.
The Alphafly 2 are 0.5oz heavier than the previous version and actually have less foam in the forefoot since they increased the drop from 4mm to 8mm. I may be slightly brain deficient but I'm not sure how these NEW shoes gave him that mechanical advantage to break the WR. 🤡
so Nike is in the business of making slower shoes now?
The weight was mostly as a result of making the base wider which would accommodate more foot strikes. I suspect they had similar reasoning for the change in heel to toe drop. Hate to break it to you but Nike is in the business of making money, the changes were obviously made to increase sales of it's most expensive running shoe.

It's funny how many people like Vaporboi come into these threads claiming the shoes make no difference. Meanwhile Vaporboi buys the brand new trampoline shoes as soon as they come out wears them for every run, LMAO.
LMAO the dumbest conversation in track and field. The shoes are available to all competitors, it is cute to discuss the technology but beyond that it is the better runner still winning. Complaining about the shoes is such a crybaby topic. It mattered when they were only accessible to certain folks but that is over. Might I remind you short term memory syncophants, this same argument was made when Waffle runners were created. LOL

Noone is claiming the shoes are why he won. But the shoes are why broke the world record, and that's indisputable.
Imagine if 20 Elite runners at Berlin wanted 2 or 3 pacers of their own. Would that fly or no?
Elite runners don't get to bring in personal pacers, the race director is brings them in to run a certain pace. Anyone can take advantage of them. I'm sure the top runners can request a certain pacer but it up to the RD. London uses multiple pacers for different times.
