I'm not buying the whole 60:50 thing now. No way Kipchoge just talked these guys into running flat at their flat out half marathon PBs, and further, just on a whim.
This might well turn out to be a second lance Armstrong
There were hostile murmurings about Lance Armstrong during all his Tour wins. Lots of bridges burned as he shut people up with money and lawsuits. France hated him.
Kipchoge has had the same coach forever. He's sustained long relationships with younger runners he's mentored like Geoffrey Kamworor, but his camp also cycles runners in and out. It doesn't seem like a tightly controlled gotta-take-an-oath of secrecy and sign a disclaimer kind of environment. Mostly you have to do your chores.
Faith Kipyegon trains in the same camp and she only sees her child on Sundays and Mondays. With men like Kipchoge, this seems par for the course, but it really struck me as something that sounds so drastic for a mom. I know, double standards. But the point is, they are making some deep, deep sacrifices to be so good. And a disciplined life like this is not for everyone. I don't think anyone but Kipchoge will break his record for a long, long time.
Couple other American women in top 30. Never heard of them.
Pomaranski, Andrea
Phillips, Caitlin
Peale, Kaitlyn
Looks like the two Kates are running together.
Andrea (Kremer) Pomaranski was a star at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis and an All-American at Miami (OH). She's running better times as a 40 year old than she did a decade ago!
