Thank you for providing this information. I am so happy to have discovered this great article. Like the game flagle, I have bookmarked this site and will visit many times in the future.
but,......not after what transpired earlier today!
You don't believe J.I. can run 25K at 4:32.5 per mile pace? As I stated yesterday, J.I. wouldn't feel good past 10 miles, I wouldn't be against J.I. holding on to 25K. It would have to be worth it though for J.I. It would ruin his training for weeks.
Stupid question. Jakob is not a marathoner. If Kipchoge tried to race a 1500 against Jakob today, how long could Kipchoge keep up with Jakob’s pace? Two laps?
Kipchoge's 1500m PB is around 3:32. so he could keep up until the last 200m/300m'ish
Correction: Kipchokes PB is 3;33.20 set at the age of 19 (at least officially).
And you think Kipchoke still can run 3:33 at age 37? Think again!
How long could Kipchoge last with Jornet if he tried to keep up with him on UTMB?
Kipchoge would probably win that race, if he trained specifically for it.
No he would not... It is a much different skill set than most track runners realize... There are several sub-elite kenyans (2:10s and faster) that have dedicated many training cycles to trail running and Killian could have finished done and interview and taken a shower by the time they are crossing the line (legit 30 minutes).
Kipchoge is the best ever at running on a flat, fast surface. It is not the same, and the correlation between being a really good road or track runner and being really good on trails is nowhere near 1:1 so to assume Kipchoge would come in and beat Killian is absurd.

Stop talking about ultra running no one cares, this thread is about two actual GOATs not some wannabe marathoner dropouts jogging trails in the woods
Nah I’m not the real Jakob. I just don’t think it’s fair to ask how long he could hang with the GOAT marathoner when he hasn’t even trained for the distance. Why not just ask what could Jakob run for a marathon?
A fair comparison to Kipchoge would be this: who could last a longer percentage at the other’s pace in their specialty event? Seems like most people here think that Jakob would last about 25K at Kipchoge’s marathon pace. That’s 59% of the race. For a 1500, 59% is 885 meters. Could Kipchoge hang with Jakob at 3:29 1500 pace for 885 meters? Doing so would mean coming through the 800 in 1:51 and holding on for another 85 meters. Could Kipchoge do that today? I doubt it.
Even if you're correct, the difference is that Kipchoge would just be a few steps off at that point. He could stay close until 1200 - 1300. Whereas Jakob would eventually fall off the marathon pace completely and would have to stop or jog it in.
The nature of the marathon and the intensity of the world record pace is what makes it an interesting question. Instead of being a passive aggressive fanboy, you should take it as a compliment to Jakob that people think he would last that long. No other mile/5k guy that I can think of would last as long.
My reply shows the concept works both ways. Jakob couldn’t keep up with Kipchoge this weekend for the entirety of a marathon, and Kipchoge couldn’t keep up with Jakob this weekend for the entirety of a 1500. We all know this, so why even ask the question?
The OP is trying to make Kipchoge look good at Jakob’s expense. Not necessary and not cool.
i understand that you are a jakob fanboy and quite possibly the real jakob, but it does not make kipchoge look good at jakob's expense. nobody actually thinks jakob can keep up with kipchoge at the marathon. it's just like how nobody truly cares about how fast usain bolt can run a mile. it's a fun concept that shouldn't be taken seriously.
There’s no point speculating then the answer is to obvious or dull. So then you mention Bolts capacity in the mile (of course not sub 5) this is “how nobody truly cares”. Likewise Jakob in the marathon tomorrow -he could have a bad day or a good day, be lucky with nutrition and water, or not, but at some point (25 k, 30, 32 -who cares) realising he’s not trained for the distance, and then jog to the finish in a 2.14 or worse…
Bolt couldn’t go sub 5 fully prepared. But what Jakob could (prepared for marathon) we just don’t know (neither does he). Better to ask this: What could Jakob do in the half marathon in December (with 3 months of specific training -without ruining his anticipated track season next year)? Could he be a contender without ruining track..? Anyways -far to early speculating on marathon…
With respect to Kingebrigtsen, I don't see him going 59 low in a half marathon with 3 months training like someone said earlier. Sub 60 could be the goal but I would rather say 60:15 to 60:30
