Its the same course every year, but weather can vary. Seems like yesterday they got a good one, but ive run the same race in the past in 85 degree weather. I was very impressed with these times still.
didn't know that... I will say regardless of the actual distance, it's a slow course so it kinda evens out. like I have run full 8ks on courses way faster than franklin park
The 8k is actually 7935 meters, so maybe 7-8 seconds short? The "10K" is 9855 meters, so that's legit short, probably like 25 seconds.
Clicking through a lot of names in the results, it looks like most people ran large personal best times. That would be unusual this early in the season so it's probably true that the course is a little short, if 7935 it would be closer to 11-12 seconds difference.
Is anyone aware of any of the athletes putting their run on strava?
Regardless of whether its 10 seconds short, Franklin Park is not a fast course by any means relative to other 8ks. The Beantown meet record appears to be 23:51 by Justyn Knight, and many top runners and teams have run this meet over the last decade. This was a very strong performance by UVA.
I can’t believe people in this thread are arguing that Franklin Park is a fast course. Anyone that ran College XC in the Northeast will tell you its not, especially compared to some of these other pancake courses.
Bearcage sucks the second time up. The weather is usually a bit warmer so that explains why there were some decent winning times relative to the past.

Last year's 27th place, Korczynski (25:00) won this year's contest, 68 seconds faster. A bunch of the above guys didn't make nationals either individually or as teams, but among those who did there were many top 40 guys, and the top guys were faster this year than last despite some quality teams not being there or, as in Harvard's case, not running their top guys. Virginia's results are reason for optimism for the team to finish well at nationals this year. Arkansas scored 39 points last year and went on to finish 4th at nationals, Virginia 20 points this year, and with barely any gap, in contrast to the Razorbacks last year. So, Virginia's results are reason for optimism for the team to finish well at nationals this year.

Before kids started running low to mid 23s out west, Franklin was known as a super fast course (only partially because it’s short).
Didn’t Keith Kelly run 23:19 from the front the year he won NCAAs? I think 23:59 was about 11th at Big East that year. Hamish Thorpe (also PC) ran 23:33 or so and ended up 12th at Ncaas.
Thanks for posting, I am now much less impressed with UVA's performance. Mike Smith in 5th, Milt in 25th.

What, this literally makes it look more impressive. There were 4 top 10 teams at NCAAs in that race and 4 top 10 individuals, including the individual champion Keith Kelly. Different conditions and race I know, but UVAs times would have won or got 2nd in that race, just eyeballing that
Keep in mind that the Big East meet was about a month later in the season training-wise, and the course had hosted several meets by that point in the season, so the course was packed down and ran faster. UVA had an impressive race
