In this video, we take a look at how Nico young chooses to stretch before a run, this video is not affiliated with NAU, or Newbury park. This is simply what ...
Agreed. NP had 2 guys go from 17s in the 3 mile last year to 15s this year. And neither of them were running at RunningLane last year (np had a few JV kids run at RL). One of those guys ran a 4:35 in the 1600 last spring and had a legitimate shot to get the 7th spot.
Yes, there done. 15 min of fame has come and gone. Their ex coach bresnan fraud, never gave a hoot bout those kids. Just his own personal glory. He’s done too. UCLA program is awful. NP decline will continue to throughout the year

But not to the point where they won’t win NXN this year. But the odds of them winning NXN in 2025 are getting lower. They do have 3 stud freshmen but some schools have 1 or 2 freshmen better than NP’s top freshman. And all those freshman are on varsity (because they don’t have a Sahlman or a young on their team) so they will have more varsity experience which will be even more helpful for them

You mean they won’t win the national championship 7 years in a row?
they won in 2019
they would have won in 2020 (pretty sure)
they won in 2021
they will win in 2022
let’s see how they do in 2023. they do have a non zero chance of winning. 4 of the non seniors need to improve by 1.5 minutes in the next year (they have a choice of nine guys, so they don’t all need to improve by that much). 90% chance they will not win however.
but that’s still 4 national championships
How many HS won the national championship more than twice?

Bud, just trust me. They will probably be a top-10 team in CA next year, but next year they won’t even make NXN. Ventura and Trabuco Hills will be the best 2 teams. Both are ranked high already and return all scorers. An at-large berth will go to any of these teams: -San Clemente. 4th best team in CA but only have 3 seniors. Also they will 2 olsen brothers who didn’t run at Woodbridge. -Mira Costa. Doing well this year but missing Stickney (their top guy) for some reason. -Dana Hills (they are in a unique situation (for this team) where 1-4 are nonseniors. They won’t be losing any Jai Dawsons or Carrick Dankers). They will be average this year but this is a heck of a program and will be making some noise next year. -Clovis IF they find a 4-5. They have 3 juniors doing workouts with Claudillo. -Probably Great Oak but they have a new coach, and like NP / Granada, they lose 5 seniors. It will be hard to have so many JV runners transition to good varsity runners. Newbury Park will need to recruit 4 guys on Doshi’s level to win NXN.

90% chance they won't win? They have a far less than 10% chance of even making NXN next year.
They won Runninglane in 2021, not NXN. They may have won, just like 2020, but they didn't actually win, so they will officially have 2 National Championships.

They did win RunningLane in 2021. May not have been NXN but that’s still a national championship. All of the best teams in the nation were there.
Is great oak done too? Their performance at Bob Firman yesterday was absolutely pathetically atrocious. 2 storied programs going downhill. With both of these teams done after this year, will Dana Hills start making NXN again each year? (With NXN back and stuff) This year DH is really young. Only 2 seniors made their top 7 yesterday. One soph and 1 freshman
Shut up just shut up, I'm tired of the Newbury Park threads, go to the damn high school board.
I hate to say it but that is gonna have to wait until next year unfortunately. Yes the are untouchable this year. But next year they won’t be relevant on a national level, so don’t worry there won’t be many (or any?) threads about them (at least the boys team).
If there are threads like “what happened to the Newbury Park boys team?” next year it will mean that something is wrong with some people because they don’t realize that when a team loses so many top seniors and a great coach, a team gets worse.
the question is, what schools are people gonna make many threads about next year?
cba? Crater? Jesuit LA? American fork? Southlake Carroll? Herriman? Union Catholic? Belen Jesuit prep? Any others?
It's bizarre how NP haters are grasping at threads. They are quite likely the best in the country this year, yet again, for the fourth year in a row, even with Sean Brosnan at UCLA. Next year? What is that? This is this year. When we get to 2023, let's talk about 2023. This is 2022. By next year, who knows what this team will be like? And whatever happens next year doesn't say diddly squat about Sean Brosnan's work at NP. That will be two xc seasons and a track season removed from his coaching. So, what work does it do for you to say that next year, not this year, but next year, NP won't qualify for NXN? I happen to think that they will recover nicely and be very strong again in 2-3 years as their freshmen mature, but all that means nothing now. Enjoy what promises to be the second best xc team of all-time this year.
If Newbury park wants a chance at a national title in 2025, they better hope that next year, the varsity spots are occupied by as many youngsters as possible, like Dickran, younger Sloan, Bernardino, Watson, and younger Cantu.
Newbury Park's team is being "coached" by Tanya who is Sean Brosnan wife. I think we know who's writing the workouts. After this season the Brosnan's will have nothing to do with Newbury Park and you will see nothing from Newbury park on the national after this coming year.
Tanya Brosnan is just carrying team though the last championship. It's really that simple. It was a great run, but when the coach leaves in HS it's the same story time after time.
The only team that is still really good after a legendary coach left is CBA from NJ.
Heath retired in 2015. McCafferty is doing a nice job filling in for him though. The training is pretty much the same. He tries to make some tweaks to make things better. They could be getting second this year at NXN based on the Bowdoin results. Too bad Newbury is still Newbury this year. Good thing they won NXN in 2011.
Knowing that York made NXN in 2019, Charlie Kern is doing a good job filling in for Joe Newton
That’s the major problem. Three freshmen came into the NP program this year with similar credentials to the 2019 recruits. However (at this point), they are quite a bit behind.
2019 (freshman year)
Lex 14:37
Leo 14:58
Aaron S 15:35
Cantu 15:49
2022:
Dickran 15:47
Bernardino 15:55
N Sloan 16:08
Shearer 17:37
in addition, the top soph only has a 16:27 PB.
Of course, the year is not over, but there is presently a big gap.
And that sophomore barely made any progression from last year to this year. He only dropped 19 seconds from last years marmothe time to this years marmothe time. And that time was in the 17s. And he ran a 4:39 in the 1600.
Not trying to be mean but this sophomore class at NP went from irrelevant to even more irrelevant

Still a lot of improvement needed.
Wow. That soph wasn’t even Watson. Interestingly enough It’s a guy who plays another spring sport instead of track. Those guys don’t progress as much as those that do track.
Watson only raced once this season for some reason.
Imagine if other freshmen like Skandera, Ryan tuohy (Katelyn’s brother) and Jamison ping (graces brother) transfer there and Adrian Cantu (8th grader) goes there next year. And Rocco Culpepper goes there senior year

Saturday can't get here fast enough. At least we'll have a discussion about actual racing results and not some navel-gazing pontificating about what people think will happen in 2-3 years. For crap's sake, people are talking about NP's decline as if it's already happened. Can we get at least one race in first? Talk about their decline when they get taken down, not while they're still on top, otherwise it's just wishful thinking from the haters.
And what happens if they still win? Do we get a bunch of Tanya haters?
