Is it just me, or is great oak starting to get worse too? They got 7th at nationals last year. But here, they finished 5th without Newbury Park, Jesuit LA and Jesuit OR in this race. This means they are no higher than #8 in the nation now. Their odds of their girls team’s going to NXN are low and they returned everyone. Maybe it’s because of the departure of soles? Maybe The reason why they got 7th place at nationals was more because of the leadership of the juniors and seniors (The smith and Cortes brothers) rather than the new coach? Carmel, CBA, Union Catholic, Cherokee trail and valor Christian were not in this race either. With Arcadia’s coach fired and their team being mediocre now, California is starting to get weaker it seems like
What about Martinez? He was in their top 7 but I haven't heard much from him.
Heard he is injured and there is a rumor that he may or may not run this XC season. Hopefully he does. If he does, he will probably be on Cantù’s level. Shetty was 48 seconds behind Cantu though. If would be cool so see him (or whoever their 7th is if Hector doesn’t return), the gap on Cantu at NXN, like Doshi did on Martinez at RunningLane.
Did everyone forgot the coach is at UCLA now? I can’t imagine UCLA would allow him to still coach Newbury Park. Without him training the kids like D1 runners, they will all run slower this year.

No, people still know that. I can imagine that Lex and Leo acting like coaches though.

So how do you think the departure of soles is looking for great oak’s future?
They lost to Granada and so many out of state teams. Seems like they are going downhill already.

Sean Brosnan's wife is the coach now. Meaning the top boys are still being coached by Sean Brosnan. Let's not pretend anything different.

He coached them over the summer, but his wife Tanya has been coaching with the team for years and she has better running credentials than he does, so it's not as if she doesn't know how to coach as well, and in any case, they'll continue doing most of the same program they've done for five years now. What we've seen so far is that almost all are healthy and improving rapidly. We've also seen that there are programs that start with runners at a higher level. Whether they develop those high 14 and 15 minute frosh as well as NP does its high 15 and low 16 frosh is another question.

There are programs that start with runners at a higher level? where? NP starts with runners at THE highest level. Have you not seen the freshmen results for the Youngs, Sahlmans, et al?
They don’t develop their kids any better than the majority of teams do, they just start from a better place.

Judging from the latest L & L video they've learned quite a bit. Even if you question any of the points they've made there's no denying that they have a sincere interest in different facets of training, nutrition, etc., and I expect that the younger runners look up to them and listen to what they have to say.

Nico wasn't at a high level until well into high school. Lex and Leo were very good. But you can just look at the top freshmen at this meet and while there are some good ones at NP, 15:48 to 16:07, there were numerous faster freshmen at Woodbridge. Two programs had 2-3 freshmen all faster than NP's top freshmen. As for the notion that the program with the greatest xc team in high school history, by far, one good enough to challenge an all-time non-NP team, does only about as well as the majority of teams is risible.
If Newbury park wants a chance at a national title in 2025, they better hope that next year, the varsity spots are occupied by as many youngsters as possible, like Dickran, younger Sloan, Bernardino, Watson, and younger Cantu.

Once you’re done spending time at the NP alter, consider freshmen to senior improvement. Nico was 3’11 and 18 lbs as a freshman and was hurt. Jace Ascbrenner was a 9:30 freshman. They had the best freshmen in the nation for a couple years with the Youngs and Sahlmans who turned into the best team in the country. We’re talking about multiple freshman running 4:15’s or so. Their kids improve like most other teams do. If you start with the best kids, you’ll probably end up with the best kids.
They didn’t have the top freshmen at this meet and those same kids won’t turn into the top team either.
