Commentators quite clueless about Jakob's pacing all champs. In the 5000 they said he wasn't ratcheting up the pace much as he ran a 3:54 mile pace for the last 1200. Then today he goes 56, 57, 56, for first 1200 - faster pace in the pouring rain than most of the field's PBs but the commentators are saying it isn't fast paced. You can see the field strung out and guys dropping off.
Sure enough a 55s last lap and it's a championship record.
Anyone else surprised at the lack of competition for Jakob? Like there was a perfect pacer running 3:32-3:33 pace and no one could hang within 1.5 seconds. Garcia Romo just ran 3:30 or 3:31 at WCs, and surely there are others in this field with similar PBs. Are conditions just really slow tonight?
What a year for Mario García Romo! NCAA cross country championship (46th), indoor mile (1st), outdoor 1500 (2nd) and a full summer schedule. Due for some rest!

Garcia Romo has had a long season, definitely tired. Heyward just had the performance of his life at Commonwealth Games and barely survived in his heat running a slow pace, definitely not at his best. So I think the competition was down a bit and the two guys who would contend we’re off their best.
