I really don't like J. Ingebrigtsen for various reasons, but what is so hard in realising that he is just a fantastic runner? Bekele has lost several times over 5000m, for sure also "Jakob" would have a chance against him. It would be some great race a la Paris 2003.
It makes perfect sense. Much of the effusions over Jakob are based on his world championship win and his 12:48. I’m saying that’s not enough to compare him with prime Bekele. This thread is about how Jakob would fare against prime Bekele. It’s fair to say prime Bekele was the runner we witnessed at the 2008 Olympics. Jakob does not beat that man.
Also, you conveniently left out Bekele’s 12:37 WR, his 12:40, and the boatload of Golden League wins. Jakob has obviously done great for his age, but running 12:48 with super shoes and winning one world championship does not put him at Bekele’s level at 5K. Jakob may get there with continued improvement and dominance, but it’s absolutely premature to claim Jakob at age 21 could beat prime Bekele.
Going into the 2008 Olymics, Bekele has won no World or Olympic title at 5000. Yet he was not bad at the distance at these games. Gebrselassie has no 5000 title at all, yet in his prime he was as good as Bekele.
"Jakob" is 21, what should he have won so far?

It's nonsense. J. Ingebrigtsen is 21, how many 5000m world titles do you expect?
The number of titles is not the measure. Daniel Komen has won one global title during his whole career - yet in his 96/97 form he would be a threat for any runner in history.
With the way he has been dispatching world class fields with ease lately I think we should compare Jakob with prime Bekele. How would he fair in a championship race versus him? How about a diamond league type time trial? What type of tactics would Bekele use to try to beat Jakob and vice versa? Bekele doesn't have the 1500m speed of Jakob but he has dropped 53 second 400s at the end of 12:5x 5ks so if its left down to the last 400 it could be a close race. Jakob is now known for winding up the pace over the last 800-1200 meters and grinding away but thats the exact tactic that Bekele used to obliderete Kipchoge and the rest of the field in the 2008 olympic final 5000m. If Bekele tried winding it up from 2000m out could Jakob stick on him and outkick or would he die out. Maybe the other way around could happen.. discus
I believe if you transported Jingy to that 2008 Olympic final he’d finish 2nd. Probably moves past Kipchoge with 320 to go but fails to get back on Bekele’s shoulder. Bekele won that race in 12:57.82 with Kipchoge 2nd in 13:02.80. Ingebrigtsen might have run 12:59.0.
This is the correct take, prime 2008 Bekele ran on pure hate after his big misses in 03 and 04. No other human on earth was going to win that day in 2008 but prime Jakob (which we still haven't seen) might outlast Kipchoge (who was past prime by then)
He does what he did to Kipchoge in 2008, with a 3:57 last mile and 53 last 400. Jakob could hang on longer than almost anyone, but in the end there is nobody capable of beating that version of Bekele.
If the pace up to the last mile is >13:00, which it was in this race. Then Jakob can close the last mile in 3:55.
Jakob wins.
Only way for Bekele to beat Jakob would be to have someone sacrifice himself and run 12:39 pace, then Bekele picks it up and close fast enough to to run a 12:37.

OK, so Jakob's 12:48 is worthless because it was in super shoes, but we just ignore the fact that Bekele competed in the pre ABP era, moved to the roads as soon as it was introduced, and was closely connected to both Hermans and Aden, and that his 17 year old GF dropped dead on a training run. Bekele's times are 100% legit, right.

I'll repeat it.
No human who walked this earth can beat Jakob in a 5000 by running >13:00 pace up to the last mile.
He can be beaten by someone who can run sub 12:40 while also not being in the lead until last quarter (someone needs to rabbit).
Now it seems you’re being deliberately obtuse. Let’s keep this as simple as possible: Bekele’s prime was the 2008 Olympics. Do you believe Jakob beats him in that race?

In his current form probably not. But this guy has astonished me not just once since a few years.

even if he has a faster 1,500m...Bekele had an amazing change of pace. Here is a race doing a last lap in 53:03 (only starting the kick 350m to go) in a 12:48 race.
In a thrilling race, world record holder Kenenisa Bekele beats his renowned competitors at Weltklasse Zürich 2006 at 5000m with an incredibly fast final lap ...
I believe Bekele ran 1:53 for the last 800m in this race, 59/53.x. To me that is the most impressive part and what made him unbeatable. I don't think anyone could beat him unless he made a tactical mistake. He thought his kick was better than El G off a slower pace. He learned his lesson and never let that happen again and even then it took the greatest 1500m runner in history to beat him.
Jakob is a great runner and looks primed to be the best of his era, but Bekele's dominance for 10 years over multiple disciplines (without a positive test but strong suspicions) makes him hard to bet against.
