Jakob cannot come close to 12:35 and he never will. His limit will be about 12:40 is what it looks like. He is probably about 12:46 now and just toying with these fields. He would be in big trouble against the legends of 2003.
Seems in this site people don't believe in "natural talent" and use it for whatever is convenient for them.
Yeah sure natural talent AND perfect professional coaching with an emphasis on aerobic/threshold development from the age of 8.
Its extreme talent + extreme work ethic from a young age + perfect distance development coaching = GOAT Distance Runner
Ingebrigtsen brought a new dynamic to distance running in Europe but he benefited from favorable conditions (look at the family background and the experimentations of the father).
No, the only way to beat Jakob is to have comparable natural talent.
The naturally untalented Mo Farah did exactly the same thing Jakob's started doing, but better. I recall him closing in 51 one year
I've never liked Mo but I'm sure he'd handle Jakob pretty easily
Farah was only closing in 51 in 14:00+ races. They also have different racing styles, so not the same thing. Jakob preferring the long run from home, and Mo content with a 400-500m burnup.
You need to force him into changes of pace that disrupt his rhythm and if he leads with 500m to go, in the same way with Farah, he's almost unbeatable. When he makes moves around the front of field you simply have to match his impetus and make him chop his stride to markedly accelerate to get by you. Rhythm-based pace "grinders" or "squeezers" like Jakob hate having to change their cadence and make multiple short bursts of acceleration during the race.
In that final it was obvious in the final 80m that Katir wouldn't have won this either way but I don't know why he wouldn't at least tried to make it interesting by going past him with a short burst down the back straight. You almost have to do the Coe "double kick" which is kick past someone and when they accelerate to match you and ready themselves you kick again. Obviously you need to be really good to do this but there are guys out there with the lungs to do it and the ability to train for at least attempting it.
But save for a sub 12.45 solo effort which starts at the gun it seems really difficult to beat him over this distance right now.
Not quite sure what you’re saying in your 1st paragraph but it sounds like someone would be pushing the DQ envelope.
True story, I was literally eating a cherry when I read this and nearly inhaled the pit as I laughed.
What world are you living in when you think it's "pushing the DQ envelope" to disrupt his rhythm by making pace changes either leading the race or as he's coming up to assume control of the race? So you're saying that if you are leading a race and someone attempts to pass you, you have no right to increase your own speed to stop that happening? That's a DQ?
I read some insanely stupid stuff on these message boards but this is Mt Rushmore. Congratulations, you made it.
Katir did better than all the African (and North American) of the final of the world championship Eugene.
The only way to beat Jakob in the 5000m is to improve endurance and training for distances. Katir wasb't able to outkick the Norvergian because he had in less in his pool in the last round than the Norvergian.
Remember what Sifan Hassan was doing to Kipyeon in 2019/2020 and the change that happened after 2021.
No, the only way to beat Jakob is to have comparable natural talent. In the 5000m, he is fast and strong and tough to beat. Fisher might be able to beat Jakob in the 10000m but he doesn’t have the speed to ever take him in the 5000m.
And this is close too. Yeah way to state the obvious here - this is such a remedial statement it defies belief. Nobody thinks Sammy Parsons could magically take down Jakob by simply putting in a few surges mid-race in a 13.30 affair. But if just comparable natural talent was enough than how was it that the fastest man ever over this distance got utterly destroyed in Eugene? Are we going to contend that a guy who has run 12.35 (and is the Olympic Champion) is not of at the very least of "comparable natural talent"? So it's simply not enough - it's a basic prerequisite of even joining the conversation on taking Jakob down.
The key to beating Jakob is having the speed endurance to endure his fast last mile, while having a better gear change fot that final 100m. Look at the 2003 5000m where Kipchoge beats El G.

True but Eliud only contested the 5000m whereas Kenenisa and Hicham were finishing their doubles.
Start fast from the gun Aregawi style. Jacob always lingers a bit in last place. That s your only window of opportunity...after that the boat has sailed.
