Opening a Running Store requires 70-80 hours a week. How is she planning to continue to train and open a store?
Lol. No it doesn't. There are these things called "employees." You can even hire special employees called "managers."
I know and have known running store owners, and none of them put crazy amounts of time into their stores. Of course, I'm not saying that there aren't owners who put a ton of time into their stores, but it's not a requirement. Owning a business isn't like practicing a trade. You can be super active or super passive.
Really rooting for her! Always a fan of the independent running stores and their owners going against the competition and e-commerce giants on top of everything else. Wishing her the best of luck.

What would she be training for? She had her shot at the world championships and will be like 40 by the time Paris rolls around. Sort of seems like another Sara Hall - may run some great times at races where nothing is on the line but not in the mix when it counts...
Seems like one and done. Got the American Record. She continues to run but now gearing up for just marketing purposes. Albeit I'm not against making income. I would be a walking billboard too.
This sport is a joke. If you reach the heights, you become eligible to become a brand influencer or a celebrity shoe store owner. Oh boy, I hope I become a once-in-a-generation phenom so I can be hired by an apparel company to be the running coach for its team of influencers! Or maybe I'll get to start a risky, low-reward brick and mortar store. I feel like the people who are most screwed over by the whole enterprise are the top runners - they sacrifice everything and at the end of the day, there is no retirement plan.

The store has to have sufficient revenue before you can really hire a built out staff. Most small businesses, including running stores, do require massive hours from their founders until the business reaches some sort of critical volume of sales/revenue such that the owner can take a step back and pay someone else to run the business.
It would be a-typical for her to not have to devote long weeks to the store.
All of that being said, because this is almost certainly not a typical small business situation, I suspect there is some sort of funding (be it financing or whatever) that will allow her to hire a staff way before the store's finances would typically allow.

This a co-branding exercise. it's a PR store with her name on it to take advantage of her newfound celebrity. It's "her" store, but a great deal of the work that goes into a startup store is being handled by the PR people.
Yes that is exactly what I meant.. 5th and 8th place aren't in the mix for any medals..
And how many medals have you won?
I guess Molly Seidel simply should have stopped running when she fell out of the medals in Tokyo.
Hell, why run the race at all? We can just use the World Rankings and decide who is the Real Champion.
Spare us all the histrionics. 5th and 8th require some asterisks as coming in the shallowest WMM field of the past 5 years. They can only race who shows up yet between lack of appearance fees and then visa issues and COVID positives that field was way weaker than even a normal WC year in the past. They aren't not fine performances yet don't act like this is where they would have finished in Hokkaido. Both are notorious as being better time trialists than they are competitors.
