Well the two best US guys (Hocker/Teare) are hurt and the third in all likelihood (Jonathan Davis) ran 3:33.8 and I doubt he's going to Europe. Nuguse is next up and has been winning and looking good. He beat Fisher convincingly at Portland Track Festival with Gregorek in second. Could Fisher time trial the best of our remaining guys with Hocker/Teare on the shelf? Maybe, but not so sure if Nuguse/Davis were in the same race and had their chance at it. The 3,000 and 1,500 are vastly different races and Davis had to do a lot of his running within his 3:33.8 out there by himself. Nuguse has never been in a super-fast DL type race. Thompson is probably due for a nice PB at 1500 and if he were racing Fisher I'd like his chances if the race turned at all tactical. In an all-out drag race yes I favor Grant.
With these super spikes 12:45. Without the super spikes 12:55. In any case times are meaningless. How about we care about when he medals.
God, should we require athletes to run in wooden shoes on a cinder track? Should we require NASCAR drivers to drive model T's? Baseball players play bare-handed? Technological advancements make the sport fun, old man.
He ran 13:11 2 weeks ago in good weather. Idk why that isn’t good enough.
So I guess you mean under 100% ideal conditions. Perfect pacing. Slight breeze. Cool. Low dewpoint. No competition. Everyone rooting for you. The newest spikes. Brand new bouncy track. perfect preparation and feeling excellent race day. Like that race in the forest a few years ago.

Chasing a fast 1500 might be fun for Fisher, but what’s the point? Will he learn anything about tactics and positioning to help him in longer races? It seems like his final 1500-2000 is more than fast enough for him to medal in championship races, what do we think is Grant’s top 400 and 800? How does it compare to Jakob, Cheptegei, Kiplimo, Aregawi, Barega, et al? Is this relevant to his ongoing global success? If his closing speed is lacking, can he do anything to improve it now other than beseech the almighty?

Why are you being intentionally obtuse? 13:11 was a championship race with a 4:00 and under last 1,600m. This thread is about what he could potentially run in an actual fast race.

Yeah I tend to agree with this and running a 1500 is meaningless with respect to developing anything that helps him in championship 5/10's. It would simply be an exercise of capitalizing on his great form right now but then the question would be why not put all eggs in one basket and try and set a historic mark in the 5000. Maybe him running a quick in Lausanne doesn't affect him fatigue wise - maybe it does? Either way I fully agree with whoever said you can't always count on this type of form every season moving forwards. He has a shot to put a mark out there that could stick around for a while. My worry would be that some of these races coming up which include the DL "final" won't be set up for fast times (not sure if a DL final 5000m has ever been under 12.50). I just checked the ISTAF website and they don't have a mens 5 so things are getting tight schedule wise.

dude, this little "spiel" isn't funny or contributing anything to what this thread is about and you know this. Why not contribute something of value or f--k off. Seriously.

In the end it’s about records and medals. I’m all for him not counting on any DL races to go super fast and setting up a nice time trial and smashing the American 5000 record. Nothing wrong with doing this at home and then targeting the DL final for a medal. If he doesn’t recover in time for the DL, so what? At this point, go get the record….

Well said Stitchmo! I am really laughing out loud...no need for the abbreviation..
(as opposed to the golden days of EPO, uh I mean the 5000m event where Komen and Geb would trade 12.40 and under clockings multiple times in a season).
Daniel Komen ran under 12:44 once in his career. Geb ran under 12:44 twice and one of those was 12:41.86. They were trading that multiple times per season.
No you are right, this was a little exaggeration. I got carried away by the 97 season where Geb ran the almost unthinkable 12.41.86 only for Komen to run an even more unthinkable 12.39.74 9 days later. Of course Geb under that but it was a season later and no, Komen didn't counter (I had it in my mind he did). Either way it did seem like we had a period in the event where low 12.40 clockings happened a lot more regularly than they do now which was my point.

Well is he coming back home or just staying out in Europe? I was under the impression it was the latter. We know he can set records in the spring/indoors. I'm all good with him just racing the top guys in the next couple of races, which should be loaded.
