Actually it is a big deal. Professional sports aren't for the athletes they are for the paying customers (AKA fans). So having to choose between watching the B level athletes at Sound Running or watching the early days of World Champs is bad form. Some probably watched both but they are probably unemployed people that have too much time on their hands.
T&F is different in that most of the events require an athlete to peak at just the right time to be able to win a medal in an international competition format. It is just too hard to expect athletes to be able to do that after 3-4 months of racing, especially the athletes from countries like the US that have national championships that are nearly as competitive as the WCs.
The post-WC meets are interesting in that the pressure of WCs is off and athletes can take some risks that they would not be able to take during WCs. And athletes are also still trying to get Diamond League points for year end bonuses.
Lol Eugene is forced to host early to accommodate Commonwealth and Euros. Nothing to do with the Americans.
Very silly, switching the euros and worlds would have been fine. Euros are almost always before worlds. Commonwealth games can get canned anyways imo.
To be fair, Euros and Commonwealths have been scheduled for years in advance. World Champs in Eugene was supposed to be in 2021 and was moved to 2022. It makes sense that the world Champs was placed to accommodate the already scheduled championship meets.
The valuation of World Athletics, USATF, Diamond League, and NCAA meets are insignificant thus they have poor sponsorships, TV views, and very low prizes. Only the Olympics have respectable high valuation, etc.
football world cup, Tennis Opens, Golf Opens, Tour de France etc etc ... all held in the middle of seasons and those sports seem to do alright . As a fan I think it's great for the sport .
And tennis has just one center court. You have the heats on a different day and then the top 9 are the ones on "race day". It would be like earlier rounds in Tennis or qualifying in racing with the only difference there being that it is true qualifying, not just figuring out the order of the race.
Most sports league understand that the season should end with a single championship. They don’t crown a winner and then have them go on the road to play the same teams again for another month or two.
Move the World Champs to the end of the season.
Whose season? Ah, another thread showing the LRC lack of geographic knowledge...hint...you are not the world
I’d say it’s a great thing. Instead of the season ending, we get to watch the best athletes for 2 more months attempting to run fast times, and break records. Just look at what SAFP has done since Worlds. We get to see her go after that Flo Jo record, like ETH attempted to do last year. Bonus excitement.
The olympics and world championships should be in September or October. No serious track meets should be held by the governing body of the sport after this meet. It would be like if in December, there was a XC invitational or one more college indoor meet the first week of April. Meets after worlds is just stupid.
Track isn't a "league". It's an individual sport. WC is usually in August because that is the peak part of the summer season, when athletes are at their best. Athletes are going to be careful not to over-compete before a major championship so as to be at their best in the championship. Moving the WC to the end of the season would shortchange all the Diamond League meets. Athletes who choose to race a lot to make money wouldn't be at their best at the end of the season -- no one is.

WC and DL are demonstration meetings to encourage more athlete participation. The prize money is at a level considered to be 'honorarium' a.k.a. 'appreciation fee'.
Doesn’t hurt soccer’s popularity. Between the sports multiple competitions; domestic leagues, domestic cups, continental championships, national team stuff etc.

yup-track athletes are under-exposed enough as it is-it is cool to see these athletes "playing with house money" and going for some records post-championship; It isn't like they are marathoners having to be really selective when they race...
This is general reply to the thread not a specific post ,I can see the logic of some arguments but it’s worth remembering the world champs and diamond league are built upon some very old frameworks ,i’am of an age when there wasn’t a world champs ,it was perfectly normal in Olympic years for the post Olympic meets[which kept the same dates year after year] to be a chance for seeing new stars and ‘revenge ‘ matches ,most diamond leagues but by no means all are based on events that have run for decades [oslo’s Bislett games ‘dream mile’ was the unofficial world champs for middle distance runners],the tradition of having a summer worlds is in line with a summer Olympics ,I think the IOC charter even gives a time slot in the calender for the Olympics to be held and it only falls out of that slot under exceptional circumstances [weather conditions in host city etc ,think of Doha Worlds],most Olympic sports follow this and it’s prob just ‘money’ that gives us these events in unusual slots such as this winters soccer World Cup ,in rowing they’ve pushed worlds to October in the past to allow spring to have started in NZ for example ,a lot of us euros have always wondered what impact a later worlds/O’s would have on U.S running ,with you doing these NCAA/trials then worlds /O’s in such tight timeframes

I agree and I think it adds to the confusion the average fan has with following the sport.
In every other sport and at every other level of this sport, the championship ends the season.
They might also be able to tie some participation in the world championships to performances in meets just to encourage some people to compete more.
Look at some of the athletes who are medalists- they rarely compete. OK, some have injuries but many just don't race.
Geez- in NY State you have to have a certain number of races (each in a different meet) (like 6 or something) just to compete in the state qualifying meet. The only way around it is a doctor saying that they treated the athlete from this date to that date making it impossible for them to have the required number of races.
Instead of a season, pro track & field cycles until the once in four year Olympiad. These World Championships are prelims for that.
