wait, she's privileged? Oh then she sucks. Did your post really need a "but"? What's the but? Im calling you on this one. Connections to go to vet school? Sounds fishy. In what country do the rich and famous clamor to....get into vet school? Yet another vet with a silver spoon!
Yeah, because privileged people are always really tough competitors. I saw Don Jr and Eric and Ivanka at a 5k last weak. They were so privileged they cleaned up!
I know Scotland has free tuition for Scotish people you fat yanks. There is a very small number of places on the courses. The most privileged and well prepared get those places.
What on earth are you on about? Both Further and Higher education is free in Scotland (well, fully funded by gov) so relevant grades, voluntary experience and a good personal statement/interview get you on to a course, you can't blag it with 'privilege'. Many Scottish universities actually reserve a number of places for 'less privileged' postcodes/areas so being privileged might even be a disadvantage for borderline applications. Source: I work in Scottish higher education.
I remember when she was letsrun's whipping girl for being "tactically naive," because she took chances in her races. I loved that she did that then and love it now. I'm a fan for life.
She is a good runner but she is lucky and privileged. Vet school in the UK is for those with money and connections.
No it isn’t,we have free university education here in Scotland,so she wouldn’t have paid a penny.
She went to Kinross High School not far from me which is a bog standard Scottish comprehensive school,so she would’ve had to leave there with top grades to get into vet school, nobody gives you it..
Agree on her being a great athlete. I know we’ll look back now and see an Olympic silver medal and a world bronze but I think she’s been in top 3/4 in her event for 7/8 years now and only going aggressively for gold rather that settling for medal means she only has those 2. Would also say re her vet degree Glasgow university where she went is consistently top 15/20 in world so while her timing moved around very tough to qualify in this subject from there. Question for others - was she Andy Young first athlete or did he have success before her?

Real decent little athlete he was, Andy, back in the day. Very short (and now equally as wide) but great leg speed and gutsy, much like Laura is these days. 1.49 at 18 or whatever he was isn’t world class of course, but very good nonetheless.
As for Laura herself, absolutely huge fan, how can you not love and respect someone who runs like that
