He was never going to make it as a WR for the Eagles. We have solid depth already: AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Quez Wadkins, Zach Pascal and yes, even Jalen Reagor (the first round bust).
Devon Allen's only shot to make the roster is on special teams as I have been saying for the last couple months. Our kick return and punt return guys have sucked over the last 3-4 years.
catching punts isn't easy. seems to be a skill you are either naturally gifted with, or forget about it. I've seen very competent receivers who are shaky waiting to catch a ball falling from 30 yards with a 250 lb 4.6 runners coming straight at them.
I know some track fans are selfishly hoping for his downfall so he can focus more on hurdling/running. I hope he gets it together. 1 year of NFL salary might be more than he makes in his entire career for T&F.
WRs aren’t covered by linebackers and one that big and fast would be an outlier.

NFL minimum is 700k. I heard Grant H was north of 800k coming out of college.
Transition from college to NFL is huge. Everything moves twice as fast and everyone is twice as big. Allen hasn't played football since 2016. It is going to take time to get him up to NFL speeds and intensity. He is probably also hitting the weight room hard to get his upper body ready for the hits he is going to take of the line. But these are all things that will come around. What you cannot teach is flat out speed. Allen has pretty huge advantage in that department.

Having good hands is probably genetic. He’s been away from football for awhile but he undoubtedly continued practiced running routes while having a QB throw to him.
They obviously understood Allen would take awhile to get back into football anything, do think they will have some patience with him. Do expect him to get at least this season to see what he can add.
If he returns punts, he won’t have the experience you described. Punting requires big, not so fast, guys to block. The gunners are cornerback sized.
Do you even watch football? 250 lb 4.6 might be a slight exaggeration, but there certainly are plenty of guys near that who will be on punt coverage. After the two gunners, there are 9 other people on the punting team.

Hmmm, I’m not so sure about this. There are certain things that you can’t really coach at that level and the drops he’s been having aren’t just speed issues. He’s never been a physical receiver and I don’t think he’s going to hold up to the beating in the nfl. I mean, look at his college stats. His first year was solid, but his productivity was very poor over his last two years. I hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t see it happening.

Also the nfl only test for peds 1 time a year and they tell you when so he should be stronger faster faster

Yep, he signed a 3 year 2.5 million dollar contract. Obviously not all guaranteed as he has to make the team.
surprise surprise, it takes an immense amount of skill and toughness to be in the NFL. Simply being fast isn’t going to cut it because everyone else is fast too. Tyreek is great because he’s a football player, just happens to be insanely fast. Devon Allen is the opposite. oh well every kid dreams of simply being on the roster.

Hurdlers are not just fast, they are NIMBLE. That is his value.
