Assuming that he's in comparable or even better 5000 shape than back in Florence, Sub 27 at the very least seems reasonable. Maybe 26:4x?
He would just hang around until 800m to go and start the slow burn and finish his last 800m in 1:52 like he did in the 5000m final. Nobody can hang with him when he starts rage slow burn 700m to 800m out
It’s mind blowing for a guy that won multiple 5/10K doubles in the Olympics and WCs. Geb and Bekele never ran that fast. You can say that they were never in the right 1500m race but that’s just speculation.
Of course and it is also mind blowing for a guy who was a 3:38 guy at age 25. Let us be real here. There is no way the other poster saw this coming. No way.
You're wrong. I knew it and his former coach in the UK knew it. This person also advised Steve Cram regularly.

There is a pace that another runner could set where a slow burn finish won’t be in Jakob’s tool box.

Pretty much anyone who runs the 10k seriously doe it at 2*5k+60s. The specialists can get it down to 40s. The only issue people find is finding fast 10ks in cool weather. The energy system demands between the two races is just to similiar.
And the dude has run numerous XC/road races at this length. He will be fine..
That’s not true, 1500/5000m type runners cannot run 2 times their 5000m PRs, plus 60 seconds. Do you think Centro could pull that off? If JI can do it , he also has the potential of winning a Gold Medal in the Olympic marathon.
Centro would have been with in a few seconds either way. People lose it between the 1500 (i.e. he was running 13:00 instead of 12:45k) and 5000m not between 5k&10k. See Allen Webb for the 1500m guy who in an early season meet ran 5k+75s off his 5k PR from the year before. And he was definitely a 800/1500m guy. Most 1500/5000m guys though just never run a 10k. Heck most 5k guys rarely run a 5000mnin good conditions.
And no running a fast 10k doesn't imply running a great marathon. You can make a long list of 10k guys who never ran a good marathon because the demands are vastly different There isn't such a list of 5000m guys.
Interesting POV. Farah finished c 3.5 secs behind the gold medallist, and whilst we cannot actually see from the outside whether a person's insides are doped, we can, if we look closely and wish to compare a 'before' and 'after' scenario, see how they move, and, perhaps, how much mass they are carrying. If you think Farah's biomechanics and weight (or bodyfat %) in 2009 Berlin final are exactly the same as they were from 2011....

Actually Mo was only 2.6 seconds back from the gold medalist but this all came down to the last lap, and Mo essentially fell apart, whereas later he became mostly invincible in the same scenario. Of course his body fat % may have impacted by his PEDs, and his biomechanics may have improved both through Alberto’s coaching and the PEDs permitting him to hold form longer.
As years go bye it seems that Jakob become stronger at longer distance . Those 3 last laps of Championship 5000 was something very impressive . I mean there was great incredible runners in the field like Cheptegei or the Ethiopans guys but the way Jakob did those last 3 laps with a closing "fast" 800 was something special. I dont know but guys like Cheptegei was supposed to be with him , sure it wasnt in his better shape (wr shape). 2 or 3 years ago I would had say No but now I really think that Jakob can be very competitive in the 10000. Of course with some training adaptation . But really i believe we are in front of a legend, already at 21 I think we are in front of modern day running hero like Zatopek was in the past.

No this is hyperbole. Jakob could not even win the 1500m and then the 5000m played right into his hands. The Africans won’t do that again. They looked like they didn’t care. Jakob probably could not get top 5 in World Cross Country.
2007 I'll give you, 2008 he might as well have been in a different race. The point remains, absolutely nothing about Kipchoge's career before 2013 suggested he could go on to be the untouchable marathoner he has been. He won nothing over 5000m and rarely broke 60 for HM. You're kidding yourself if you think you would have predicted he'd be the GOAT based on his pre-2013 career. Late development happens and in Kipchoge's case, it was probably very late given the speculation about his actual age
Again you're misrepresenting the facts here. Kipchoge was running incredibly fast all the way basically until his move to the roads. The last few years he struggled in tactical/slow races, but in 2011 he ran 7:27.66 for a 3K in old spikes and in 2010 a 12:51 5,000. He ran 12:55 in 2012 even as his track days were winding down.
And in the Half Marathon, he ran 59:25 in his first attempt (no supershoes obviously) which was the second fastest HM debut ever and only about a minute off the World Record at the time. From there he ran low-key HMs and never pursued records, so to say he "rarely broke 60" is misleading because he was fixated on the Marathon and not his HM tune-ups. We don't really know what his ceiling the HM is/was, but I'd be shocked if with Alphaflys his 2016 self couldn't run well under 58 minutes. This isn't to say his marathon GOAT status was predictable, but it wasn't a complete shock at all. It'd be much like if Hellen Obiri moved up to the marathon next year and started running 2:16 and getting wins. Some athletes just translate really well --> it seems Kiplimo and Gidey do better than Hassan or Cheptegei do at this juncture. Or Farah did.
And now you're misrepresenting. "Only a minute off the WR" is a ridiculous statement - a minute is a lifetime in the HM. And the claim he was fixated o the marathon and that his HMs were tune-ups? He never ran a marathon in 2012 but ran two HMs and in 2013 he ran a HM in June, clearly not tuning up for anything. Absolutely nobody was talking about Kipchoge as a potential great in the marathon in those early years. There was no excitement about him moving up like there was for Geb and Bekele. Look, he had enough on his CV to convince he could be a good marathoner, but nothing at all hinted at what was to come. If you were told in 2012 that both Bekele and Kipchoge were switching to the roads, you would have only had one choice for who would be the dominant figure in the marathon, and it wouldn't have been Kipchoge. Only a contrarian would have picked Kipchoge.
Although he seems built for 800/1500, his training is for 5000/10000 with very little work at faster paces than half marathon and the vast majority of workouts at AT pace with the double sessions 2-3 times per week. His threshold pace is a bit faster than 20k/hr. They do these workouts (5x6 minutes or 10x1k) at 2:55-3:00 pace, at least as of several years ago. For speed, they do hill sprints and then occasional track sessions of 10x300 at 1500m race pace, but that's really mostly for periods immediately prior to target races. So, he should run almost as well at 10 as 5.
Tough to say, but I think he could realistically clock sub 26:30. He's easily in shape to crush the European record. Based off what we say in Eugene, I'd even go so far as to say that Jakob (in a championship setting) isn't beatable in the 5000m or 10000m. In terms of pure speed his best event is still the 1500, but his speed coupled with insane aerobic strength makes him an unparalleled weapon at the longer stuff. If he committed fully to the 5000m/10000m double on the global stage, I could see him winning the Olympic double crown all the way through 2032.
Knock it down to 1245 and 2630. He's an aerobic monster and it's hard to imagine him being slower than Grant Fisher.
When people talk aboub Jacob, they often age comparison argument
From his IAAF profil:

Place Århus (DEN)

Jacob has an advantage in comparison with African. He has a stable situation, I don't think he tought abandoning school like someone Al Bakkali, and he is well surrounded by his family.

Does Gjert throw around childish doping allegations?
