~£20 for a minor event, ~£50 for a major event. Bear in mind that the Commonwealth Games is actually considered quite a big deal here, which impacts attendance. I doubt we'd get the same crowds for the World's were it held in Brum.
The World’s would easily sell out in Birmingham, just as it did in London 2017.
To be fair though the ticket office was located past the point you needed a ticket to get to in Eugene. Interestingly Britian's Chris Cohen had to volunteer to go to Eugene for 7 weeks to sort out the mess USATF had made of some things.
Right now, there are 30,000 people going crazy for the decathlon pole vault. It's crazy. There's no finals at all this morning but people just want to be part of the big event, have a few drinks, do a few Mexican waves, having a lovely old time

The crowd deserve better, frankly. I'm catching up on the morning session and I've seen two 'heats' of the women's 1500m to reduce 15 down to 12, and two 'heats' of the men's 4x400m to get from 10 to 8 (without a single British squad entered).
But props to India for setting a new Asian record with a massive 3:06.97, with the bloke who finished fifth in the long jump on the lead-off.
*****
Men's long jump final was fantastic: 3cm between gold and going home empty-handed, and a couple of 1 or 2cm red flags on 'significant' jumps at the business end. Well worth watching.

That's pretty cheap. Also I heard people in Eugene were having problems buying day-of tickets on the premises. No one knew how to do it.
OP, you sorta undermined the point of your own message when you decided to start off your thread title with, "Tally ho old chaps!"

Also, "old chaps" refers to males generally or elderly men specifically, so it's notsufficiently "inclusionary" for 2022 - tsk, tsk. Nor is "old chaps" very accurate for this situation. Quite a few minor boys, young men, girls and women are attending and following this year's Commonwealth Games.
IMHO, a more authentic-sounding and "inclusionary" way to start off the thread would have been to go with a British expression like "Oi mates!"
I'd love to hear about why crowds are so big. Yes, way bigger town. Yes, way cheaper prices.
But some of these sessions are brutal. Here was the Thursday evening lineup. You'd have to pay me to watch this and I supposedly love track. I've separeated the medal ceremonies from the actual action.
Here are the medal ceremonies.
Women's Heptathlon Medal Ceremony 18:40 Women's Shot Put Medal Ceremony 18:45 Men's Discus Throw F42-44/61-64 Medal Ceremony 18:50 Men's T37/38 100m Medal Ceremony 18:55 Men's 100m Medal Ceremony 19:00 Finished Women's 100m Medal Ceremony 20:10 Finished Men's Long Jump Medal Ceremony 21:24 Women's Discus Throw F42-44/61-64 Medal Ceremony 20:35 Finished Men's T11/12 100m Medal Ceremony 21:44 Finished

Like is that worth 2.5 hours of my time?
It must just be an event people go to. Like are most track fans also paralympic track fans? I think not. It seems in the Uk that paralympics are bigger than the US? If I was in the Uk, thoough, it might be fun to take my son to on an nice night and tell him how they have track for people with disabilities and we all try as hard as we can, etc.
Who knows? Other than ticket pricing and location, I don't think we should be crediting thte schedulers as the key to the success as some of these sessions are just brutal.

It does not matter which events are on, it’s all about going to watch people compete and be a part of it. This happens will many types of international events we have.
it does not matter where in the country it maybe to, people travel from any part of the country to another part to watch, it’s go nothing to do with where it’s hosted.

Correct, our club has a coach full this weekend travelling 200 miles each way to watch the events.

Runraggrd, you are normally the best poster here, but this you have got completely wrong, old boy.
Tally ho now relates to ww2 flying, esp battle of Britain. Old chaps was an irony since pilots were considered old at 26. . And chaps is now gender neutral since we don't have binary genders, and never have.

Perhaps "Tally Ho" was used in the metaphorical sense? Rather than genuinely spotting a fox trotting around the track at Com Games, perhaps the poor little fox was Orgeon holding a meeting and the cry came from Birmingham, the well organised hunters?
