They typically run a team based off the competition. The year that Lakota West won state they ran their top team. Most years they run a mix of guys depending on health competition etc. A lot of team that are there this year are sending teams to Saturday Night lights, nothing good will come from them running their varsity there.

I would hope that they would run their top team in the state championship meet.
So are you saying that a lot of teams running at the St X meet are sending their top team to Centerville?

How does arguably the best program in the state have a JV meet for their invitational?
Easy, their home course isn't a great course. It loops around their tennis courts and track a lot of turns. There's never really fast time on that course. It appears more of a MS meet to get the Catholic MS'ers on the course and over there.

There is a lot of competition among invitationals now. If you look at the number of high quality meets now vs not all that long ago, there are many more. All of these meets are competing for entries. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. It would seem like it would dilute the competiton and make coaches think harder about where they are going. Coaches probably talk a lot more among themselves now to find out who will be where.
Also, these invitationals such as what St X is putting on, are a big fundraiser for the program. Even if the top teams are not running, the meets are too valuable not to hold. There are many sources of fund raising going on. There are the entry fees, concessions, and in many cases, parking fees.
Personally I would like to see a lower number of high quality meets and schools run dual meets, tris, or quads more than they now do. Way back in the day it used to be that duals were mostly run with occasional invitationals. Now it is mostly invitationals and in many, probably most, instances teams no longer run duals.
Minnesota is part of the Heartland for NXN but it is clealy a Midwestern State. I did not see any of the big Minnesota teams registered like Wayzata, Minnetonka, Lakeville North, etc. No Liberty North of Missouri either.
Minnesota teams already ran at Griak last weekend. Conference meets are coming up soon so they are probably taking breaks from large meets like this.
West Geauga, my alma mater, has 2 guys in the 15s and a few guys in the 16s. Their best team ever right now.
The school never had huge success in XC. The school record was 16:26, set in 1991 by Ryan Hawley. They got some studs though! And finally made state last year as a team.
A new configuration for the Middlefield Invitational wasn’t the concern for West Geauga’s Daniel Kearns on Sept. 24. His biggest thought was how to get out from the first starting box to the narrow…
Daniel Kearns broke fast, and once he reached the exit, the senior was gone on the flat and fast course. He took his third straight victory and set a personal record of 15:29.36, which is also 15 seconds faster than the previous fastest time in the area on the season.
While it was another victory for Kearns, it was also another strong meet for the team as well. The Wolverines also saw Matt Dienes (second, 15:48.87) and Chris Whiting (fifth, 17:31.69) in the top five with Grant Congon (seventh, 16:54.39) and John Mikes (eighth, 16:54.85) in the top 10.
West G also has girls in the 19s and low 20s now consistently for the past 5 years!
Marlington is probably the 2nd best team in the state, but since they're D2 there's really not a whole lot of point in talking about them. The only question is how much they will win by. Would be interesting if they run NXR though, they did last year.

Yes at NXR marlington would place top 10 probably. But they wouldn’t make NXN

So D2 schools are irrelevant? What about a few years ago when Woodridge was arguably the best team in Ohio and beat St X at NXR? Did the fact that Woodridge is D2 lessen their accomplishments?
Gonna be great to see Carmel face off against Jesuit La (2 of the top teams in the country)
I’m more interested in seeing how Mason stacks up against Carmel since Carmel was not at the Mason Invitational this year and they have attended it in the past.

Absolutely not. The point is they're too good, there's no competition for them. They are far more dominant in D2 than Mason is in D1. They won't run a competitive meet for the rest of the season unless they run NXR.

Yeah, that’s fair. Woodridge & Unioto seem to be down a bit so there’s no competition from them.

Mason has a very good team, but Carmel is on another level. This might be one of Carmel's best teams ever, and that's saying something.
