Why?? Because he just ran another 15 inside of the All Time U.S. U20 top 5? In first race after flying over on first overseas trip? I think you are jumping the gun. How about until he gets to 21? Before we start "having" to have to move him up?
Why? Because I've seen decades of young 1500m talent. He's great, he just doesn't have that explosive speed needed in the 1500m. He should continue developing, maybe get down to 3:32, but his breakthrough's will be in the 5000m if he stays fluid, healthy, and motivated.
Considering that he finished the Michigan with a 50 second 400m last year, that claim that he lacks the explosive speed needed is not credible. He has a very smooth stride and the mindset to go with the pacers. I just got back from Europe and it was a definite adjustment the first couple weeks to the time change and the long airplane trips. Michigan's about 7 hours behind Europe. It would not surprise me to see him run some major pr's the next month.
Look, I am not thinking this is going to happen, but in 2015 Willis got off a plane and opened in Europe at 3:39 at this meet, which was run three weeks earlier back the,, his next outing he ran his 3:29.x PR. Shipping far affects guys different ways, but rarely positively in the first outing.
Kessler has way , way more than enough speed. I think he is running an 800M next, even though that field is pretty full . I don;t think his agent has trouble getting guys in anywhere..lol.

Much happier to see him in Europe than in Cali (at 1000m altitude) or Memphis.
I wish that Kovacs would have also been in that race (with his fellow Hungarian colleague who ran a PB) instead of Cali. This was the perfect race for Kovacs to run sub 3:39.

In addition to that, he closed an 8:54 3200 with a 25.7 final 200. And he completely shut it down with 40m to go! He gapped the field by 40m just around the turn! He needs to focus on improving his 400, 800 times over the next 2 to 3 years. No question he can run 1:42.
There's also video of him running 100m intervals, hit one in 11.2, kids got plenty of speed.
Olympic 800m finalist Alex Bell is preparing to open her season with a 1500m this coming Saturday in Ireland with the goal of challenging her personal best o...
Great run fellas. They would have finished 7th and 8th in Memphis this same weekend. Flights from Michigan to Italy must have been cheaper and more convenient than to Memphis.
You clearly don't understand the implications of sponsorship.
He's got a contract. He goes where its best for his sponsor
He was the #1 seed. He started too slow then put in an acceleration to sit behind the rabbits. Rabbits went away, then he acted as the rabbit for the entire field. In back stretch he got challenged, so he reacted. Had nothing left in the last 100m.
Classic.
He needs to get in a race where he is not the #1 seed. He can hang back. Put in a good effort in the last 250m.
Lol I remember when he ran that 8:39 and people started saying he was a better 2 mile runner until he ran that 3:34. People will always be saying kids should move up lol

Let’s not pretend that you need to run a 1:42 to be a world class 1500m runner.
I know a guy who won the Olympics and his 800m PB is 1:46.4
He closed in 25.4 winning in Myrtle Beach 8:39 two mile, Rushing Sherry and others he could have run anything that day
According to the official results, Kessler actually ran 25.09! for the penultimate 200m of that 2M race, blowing open a 2.6 s lead into 5 and then cruising home the rest of the way in 29.9 for a 55 last 400m!

Lol! No question he can run 142?! I would say actually I would be very shocked if he ever ran that fast.
I don't think he's capable of it and I highly doubt he focuses on the 800. He likely will never break 1: 45
