he lives in Sweden - get over it. Good choice. Who the the heck would want to live in a country that elected Trump as President. That says all there needs to be said about what American values are these days.
The LeBron of Sweden has been Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the last 20 years. He is so much bigger in Sweden than anybody else, that he is only overshadowed by Björn Borg and Ingemar Stenmark in Swedish sports history.
If you're the greatest pole vaulter of all time and had the choice, would you be that in Sweden where you'd be the Lebron James/Tom Brady of that country, or in the U.S. where the average citizen only hears your name once every four years, maybe?

Dude has broken the WR in the PV 5X now since early 2020 and instead of applauding how great he is, people have spent 2 pages yapping about his "citizenship".
And all that while being SWEDISH, competing for SWEDEN and NOT THE USA.
That's my favorite thing about him.
Great, which other of our athletes would you care to take, grant citizenship to, and put a uniform on? I mean, help yourself.
OUR athletes? Americans in general couldn't give a flying truck about track&field. It's a minor sport in the U.S., if not a dead one, swamped by the face-painted fat-guy money sports. So go where you're appreciated, if you can. He could, so he did. Good for him.
Yeah. Really dead. Look at all those almost dead American athletes breaking world records over the past few days. At least track and field in the U.S. is performed by people who love it and run/jump/throw because they prefer track and field to the big money sports. Money is important, but it damned sure isn’t everything.

Rich coming from an American. From the top of my head. Fisher should compete for Canada, Chelimo for Kenya, Lagat for Kenya, Salazar for Cuba. How many olympic and WC medals, top 5 international placements etc is that?
Good point. Also Hassan Mead, Meb Kefghliezi (sp?), and Sanya Richards-Ross

It's not that much of a problem getting people participating. It's more of a problem for the spectator end
One should compete for, pay taxes to, swear loyalty to, serve and honor whatever country one is a citizen of. No one should be allowed to have dual citizenship anywhere. Make a choice and commit to it. If you're embarrassed or feel that you're not financially rewarded enough by being a citizen of your birth country, by all means, get citizenship wherever you wish but don't try to have it both ways. Nauseating to see so many who are either native born or naturalized Americans find some way to get a passport from another country because that suits their best interests.

The very brutal, and yet entirely accurate, truth.
