American record is 48.7, I think, so lets see if she can break that one first.
The American record is actually the goal for this year. I don't see her ever breaking the WR, she is much further away from that than most people think. To even make a serious attempt she would need to become a 200/400 athlete exclusively for a period of time. There is no way she is going to do that with unfinished business in the 400h and I know she what test herself in the 100h. Btw, next year, she will be able command $100 for a WR; she is not about to walk away from the 400h with so much food left on the table.
You mean to tell me she needs to turn into a 200 runner to break the 400 WR when she already runs the 400 distance? Did I get that right? That's absolute nonsense. She may train some more 200s but she's much closer to it than she is away from it. She's only 3 seconds off a cheated WR time with hurdles in her way. She can easily run 48.6 to 48.8 today. Her progression in the 400H is remarkable. I'd be shocked if she doesn't break it within 1 to 2 years.
To run a split that fast knowing she is all lone is very impressive. We have to think about if she is in with other world class 400m sprinters. Now what?
I have no problems seeing her capable of taking down that 47.60 just not any time real soon.

She screwed up by lowering it so much. She could of took a half second off each time and gotten multiple checks.
A lot easier to do in the Pole Vault (raise WR by a cm) than in the 400mH!

I guess this last year Kersee has been raiding his medicine cabinet from the 1980's...
It's no coincidence that the only two women who have run 47 splits since the 80's are both coached by Kersee; it's no coincidence that it's the same coach who took crappy old VBH from 52 to 48 in ONE SEASON; it's no coincidence that his success has been primarily with female athletes, just like the GDR, because they react better to his medicine cabinet; it's no coincidence that he restricts his athletes competition programmes and withdraws them from races last minute; it's no coincidence that, under oath in court, Angela Bailey spoke about Kersee's doping his inner circle; it's no coincidence that Daryl Robinson accused him of doping athletes & Kersee didn't even sue (in the land of suing!).
That is where 47.9 and 50.6 came from. Prodigy or not, he is not stupid, he takes the best and turns them into super humans with his methods.

The reason I say turn into a 200/400 runner is because to even think about the 400m record you need to be sub-22 in the 200m and world class in the 100m as well. The WR holder Marita Koch had a 200m PR of 21.7 and 10.8 in the 100m. Syd's strength is there, but she would have to build her speed.

In the grand scheme of things, there is nothing off the charts or suspicious about Syd's performances. If you look at Syd's 400h progression from age 15, 50.68 is about where you would expect her to be. In terms of her 47.9 relay split, I was expecting her to run faster; there is no doubt some of that WR 400h race from 2 days earlier was still in her legs. Keep in mind, she split 49x back in high school. - Doping is a very strong inclination to make and should be done so with putting some thought into it.
I'd love to see her race an 800m. I've always been fascinated by what a 400mH specialist can do in the 800m, especially a phenomenal talent like McLaughlin.
BTW, her mother was a 2:12 800m runner in HS.
To grossly generalize, 400mH specialists are not as fast when compared to flat 400m specialists, while 400mH specialist have a greater endurance. Also, many 400mH specialists are build more similar 800m specialists. These are very rough generalizations and do not always apply. McLaughlin is definitely an outlier here.
I always wondered what Edwin Moses could have run for an 800m if he gave a little training tweak towards that event. He was a high-mileage guy for a sprinter/400mH specialist.

Or, the guy is a Buffoon!! Everyone like KerseeCabinet is a S#!t-stirrer. It's like listening to the Flat-Earthers... They have no credibility, yet somehow, the sane among us give them a platform to spew nonsense.
TrackCoach , as in many instances has this completely right. The only thing suspicious is that U.S. Women at 400 and 800M are NOT running markedly faster by now. I wondered about the choice of Kersee, as well, but following Sydney McGlaughlin for years now, I just do not see her being a drug cheat, and not because I am a "Homer". I also am unsure of how fast you think she would run on that RElay , given being that far ahead, and she did not even have a huge running start if you look at the tape, it was a pretty measured lift off!.. I think , pressed she surely could have gone 47.50, just look at the lack of strain at any point. Honestly....and with a modicum of flat focus could surely furn 48.00 or better from scratch, let the nay saying begin, BUT you will be wrong.
I hope we see it. She has a tendency not to run the European circuit, but hopefully she will run some key races there, rather than ending her season here.
She did it to send message to the morans who think she can only run 49.0
You don't know 400m or 4 x 400m. S.M. split 50.x eleven months ago when she was the 1st leg of 4 x 400m. The first leg is the only honest 400m split. Last leg of 4 x 400m is like racing down hill.
If Bahamas had a team, a healthy Miller Uibo could split a 47 low (maybe 46 high in a chase?) with a running start. Yet she cannot touch 47 in the open. Syd is a once in a generation talent but let’s focus on breaking Sanya’s AR first lol
