What does population size have to do with this? The 10 largest countries in the world include China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Brazil, Bangladesh and Mexico. None of these countries are strong track powers.
The state of California has a larger population than all of Canada. How did Canada beat USA?

Population has to be factor when two countries are very similar in most other ways. A high school with 2000 kids will typically have a better basketball team than a high school with 500 kids in the same city. This might explain why 17 American sprinters are ahead of DeGrasse in the word rankings. The Canadian sprinters wouldn’t have qualified for world championships if they were American. I’m just saying the Canadians were underdogs.
Are you saying that Canada is a more powerful sprint nation as long as you ignore rankings and number of elite sprinters. Canada was expected to win the 4x100 and there is no statistic or fact that would indicate the USA were favoured over Canada?
Nope. Just saying population size doesn’t guarantee success in track and rankings should be taken with a grain of salt. Just because there are 17 Americans ranked higher than De Grasse that doesn’t mean there are 17 Americans better than him. He’s an Olympic gold medalist! You are correct though that Canada’s win was an upset. A great night for Canada to celebrate!
Who would of though the USA women would win and men would lose. De Grasse ruined USA podium sweep in the 2 last year and no this. Straight G
You must be new. USA men always choke in the 4x1. Their egos are too big to practice hand-offs unlike other countries. When's the last time they medaled at the Olympics?

I hear this often that the US doesn’t practice hand-offs as much as other countries. Is this reported by insiders or is it just repeated by fans every time they don’t win?
Coward DeGrasse was afraid of the US in the 200m so he saved himself for the relay.
That makes tons of sense. He was afraid of the US sprinters in the 200, but he wasn't afraid of them in the 4 x 100, even though he did badly against them in the 100m?
Face it, patriotic Americans. You're boys got curb-stomped by the boys from up North.

From Brendon Rodney the day before the finals:
"The USA doesn't practice as much as we do. And every year that team changes. We've been a team since 2015. Now we have the new addition of Jerome. But Andre and I have been running together since 2015. There's no reason you don't win," Rodney said.
"I hate to use it all the time, but the Americans, when they get together, they're such fierce competitors in the individual events that they're sometimes not friends and they don't want to practice really," [Aaron] Brown said.
It's no secret Lyles and Coleman are not the best of buddies. The lack of practice is evident in their historically poor baton passing and outright dropping. My 16 yr old nephew recently ran a 4x100 cleaner than Team USA.
I suggest this is mostly the fault of the coaches, and maybe a little bit of the athletes agents.
