Not sure where you got your splits, but Melissa gave us a lead and Steiner basically maintained. There is no way SAFP ran faster than Prandini; Pardini was the star of that relay, she gave TT a 10-meter lead.
Looks like the biggest culprit in JA missing out on Gold is Elaine Thompson. If you watch it again, she clearly left early, thereby creating a longer distance to run than she was supposed to AND also forcing Kemba to run farther than was needed. Countless hundredths of seconds expended by this. This was the same thing she did in Tokyo and luckily it didn't cost JA but Elaine was the weak line in this race.
It is pretty clear that there is no love between ETH and SFP, it caught up to them last night. The USA had an underdog camaraderie that combined with the home field advantage, especially in Prandini's case.
Mentally, I dropped her from the 4x400 relay after her 200 meter performance, figuring her legs are gone. But that is clearly not the case. It seems that nerves more than tired legs did her in during the 200 Final. At any rate, she surely must be running the 4x400 now, after that performance.
Those numbers also confirm how much Steiner underperformed in the 200.
Shes much better than what she showed and should have been able to medal, but glad to see she rebounded in the relay.

Yep she looked really nervous before the 200m final when looking into the camera. Plus who stands a chance in lane 8? Also remember Sydney's first Olympics, look how far she's come.
My splits are the official ones recorded by World Track & Field. (You need to register -- for free -- to get them.) As I wrote, feel free to argue. Determining such splits is clearly an art.
Take 4x100 relay split times with a grain of salt, but this was how the U.S. women fared for each of their legs, vs. Jamaica -
1) Jefferson 11.35, Nelson 11.45
2) Steiner 9.86, ETH 10.10
3) SFP 9.97, Prandini 10.05
4) Jackson 9.66, TT 9.88
In short, Jefferson won the battle of the youngsters, Steiner picked up a lot of surprise ground, Prandini was just as surprising in staying very close to SFP and TT did about as well as she could in holding off the world 200 meter champ.
What a great ensemble performance by the U.S. women. They worked very well as a team.

The official splits are here. You are wrong. Steiner was the hero. Jefferson beat an athlete she should have beaten and Steiner BEASTED the 2nd leg, beating the 2nd fastest 100m runner in history by .24.
