The Burgin coronation is odd. He is promising and a front runner. But it’s a hard way to win, and there are no guarantees. Let’s hope we get to see him soon. His absence did help Korir as he astutely noted indirectly. In his interview in the mixed zone he noted that having an easy 1:49 in his legs helped him vs his competitors. Burgins DNS contributed
Agreed. Until Burgin proves himself over 3 rounds in an International field, he is just a one-off runner who can lead. Arop has tried that and failed to win yet at this level. Not as easy as Coevett seems to think.
Look at this take.
Guess who cut short Burgin at this 800m Ostrava Golden Spike 2022?
There os a young Kenyan and an Algerian that were finalist in Eugene 800m.
they can’t be negative split if you’re aiming for a PR/WR
So other than Rudisha, he's the only man to be both Olympic and World champion? That's crazy.
Whatever you do Emmanuel, don't sign with Nike even if they come offering a boatload of cash.
That was literally his first race in 12 months, and 2nd in 2 years.
A more sensible point others are making regarding Korir being a sub 45 400 runner. Burgin did run an easy 47.9 relay leg at 16 when his 800 pb was 1;47.3
I would suggest Burgin healthy is in around 45.5/1:42/3:34 shape.
This is the story. Now go turn over some rocks and figure out the details. Anonymous posters can’t do all your work for you.
I promise you there is a story here.
Pretty sure that McColgan had Covid post that fast 10k. Probably not 100% back.
It was before.
I knew your enthusiasm for Moula in the 800 was misplaced but didn't want to say anything. He can kick off a 1:45 pace, but the final was always going to be faster with Arop taking it out.
^?

The delusion is real 🤣
Everyone feel better about the sponsorship issue when there is a $70,000 first prize? That Peruvian girl made $140,000!! That's almost millionaire status in Peru. Just awesome. Jakob took home over six figures as well.

Regarding Burgin/Arop. Burgin couldn't survive the rounds, and Arop won (World's) coming off the back. Hope that E.Korir is back in 2024. But Wanyonyi is young and getting better - will be interesting to see if Arop can run a surprising tactic again, but still don't see Burgin surviving 3 rounds. Since Korir also likes to come off the back - who can do it better, Korir, Arop or Sejdati? Can any of these three take down Wanyonyi, who ended this year with the best time.
Good Q. Sedjati comes back from further in the pack. Korir likes to be up in the front just not first. Wanyonyi is similar though he will lead if it’s slow. I think Arops tactic is a good one (hard move at 500) but requires surprising the field. Might be hard to execute again.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
