Little love for El Bakk here because he is the doofiest, gawkiest elite runner of all time. His form is painful, his face is big bird with bad teeth and his post-race antics just embarrassing. He makes distance runners look like dorks and his dominance in the steeple makes it seem like a joke of an event. That's what I think when I see him cross the line in first.
10x better than Fred Kerley pounding his chest and asking everyone in the stadium to acknowledge his greatness while barely even noticing/celebrating that the US just swept.
Awesome destruction of Kenyans in this one. Kenyans are done. Love the fact he's destroying E. Africa in the event.
Here's something you should remember: a Norwegian or Moroccan will come and dominate a distance or middle distance event, before disappearing to wherever they came from. But the Kenyans will always be there, genuine contenders. Now go cry about it.
Soufiane El Bakkali broke away from the field in the final 200m to back up his Olympic gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase with a World title #NBCSports #So...
Soufiane El Bakkali and I had breakfast at our motel (yes, motel) this morning and he was kind enough to pose for a photo. Too bad only one person in the whole place recognized him. Now Olympic and two time world champion.
He just sits and kicks every race. I'm not shading the tactics, but as a fan it gets boring if that's all you expect to see. And that's exactly what happened here. After the first 2 laps the race was already boring to me cause they (especially the Ethiopians) didn't make it fast enough to suppress his kick so I already knew he was going to win.
Mo Farah ran 12:53/26:46 in 2011. He won 8 global track medals between that race and the 2017 DL final when he effectively left the track for the roads. His PR's are still 12:53/26:46. It was exciting to see him when all those titles, but he did so much sit and kick and never took any serious attempts at fast times. Farah is a phenominal athlete, but because of this he never really moved the needle for me as a fan. Same for El B.
I think the same thing when Jakob I and Tim C front run a 1500 and dominate the field the whole race. Not entertaining as I know who’s going to win before the race even starts.

To each their own.
You still aren’t sure whether Jakob or Tim will win.
I like it when they go out fast. It reminds me of Christin-Wurth Thomas. She would blast it from the get-go, because she evidently didn’t have the kick of the younger gals. It was always exciting to watch to see if she would eventually (typically, but not always) get reeled-in.

I know Jakob will win if it’s a blitz from the barn. If it slows down, Kerr, TC, etc could take it

There's literally no pace that the ethiopians could have run that would have killed El Bakkali's kick more than it would have killed their own. It's always the same thing when someone wins with a good kick, people say this is the solution, it usually isn't.
Ehh, I think everyone is reading into the sub-8 race El B won earlier this year when Girma tried to push it. Yes, that's the most recent of a race scenario like that, but El B has been outran in a fast race multiple times in the past. He's usually only lost in a kick to Kipruto who wasn't in top form. I'm not entirely convinced that if the Ethiopians made it fast we would have had the same outcome, but most here seem convinced.
