Yeah, actually I am saying that. It’s a world championship FINAL. If you don’t even try to make the move then you aren’t going to put yourself in any sort of contention. I would rather watch people go out with the leaders and fade than watch them not even try to hang on to begin with. Those women all train to go out at that pace, they all train for fast starts, but it didn’t seem like any of them reacted when it happened so fast. It was a bummer to watch.
Have you ever raced at an elite level? It is very difficult for a woman like Sinclaire (or frankly anyone else on this earth) to go out in the first 400m of a 1500m faster than her 800m race pace. Imagine Jakob going out in 52 in a 1500m. It is not going to happen. Sinclaire raced much smarter than you would know how to, based on your post.
I’m sure they both did but I haven’t looked. I would imagine every woman who saw their time after finishing except the top 3 were very disappointed. 10 women in that heat have pr’s under 4:00 and when someone sets a hot pace like that it will usually pull a lot of the group to pr’s but the race played out interesting when the second group formed almost immediately. It will be interesting to see their takes on the race
Yes, to your surprise I have. I have raced with women in that race. My perspective is coming from the championship mindset. When it comes down to a championship race, you have go with the race otherwise game over… it’s as simple as that.
OK so have you ever run the first 400m of a 1500m race faster than your 800m race pace? If so I would be curious to know how it turned out for you. Because if it went well you might be one of the few people on earth where this might be the case.
It was too fast a pace for Sinclair and for sure she would have crashed and burned if she ran in the front group. Her best strategy was to give them some room and hope to pick off some runners for a medal.
You're 100% not approaching this from a "championship mindset" if you think your entertainment value of watching a runner go out too fast and blow up means anything to a runner in a championship trying to place as highly as they can. You also don't seem to understand the difference between going out fast and going out too fast. No one trains to open up .8 faster than their 800m pace and then hold on to run a 4-second PR. Meshesha is a second and a half faster than Sinclaire at both 1500m and 800m and did what you wanted Sinclaire to do. She beat Meshesha by over 5 seconds.
No I think you’re right. As a spectator of many of these championships over the years I was just disappointed to see the race be a race of 4 right from the gun. Maybe I’m just used to seeing Jenny, Shelby, or Shannon be in the mix every year. This is a really good learning experience for Sinclair for her future appearance at world events
Strategy is based on talent and fitness and not some “mindset”. A sub-60 is a guaranteed massive positive split for Sinclaire. The first lap was actually too fast for the leaders and it probably cost them a couple of seconds. Do you believe Hall should have ran with the front group this morning in the marathon? Your “championship mindset” strategy might have gotten her a 2:25.
… and look where Hocker is now! Not the best comparison…
I don't think there's anything to learn here. The girls that took off are on another level and it's either go with them and risk blowing up or staying with the 2nd pack and hope they somehow come back. One did come back but, again, the others are just too talented.
I assumed she medaled. Shocked to see she got 6th after seeing this thread title
No you are not and were not used to seeing Jenny, Shelby or Shannon be in the mix every year. Let's review from 2011: Jenny S. medaled, 2011, 2013 & 2017. Jenny S. was not close to a medal in 2015 and 2019 Jenny S. Got Six Different Kinds of Dog Sh!t Kicked Out of her. Shelby was 4th, 2019. One time. The leaders today in women 1500m F were on 3:44.xx 1500m pace through 1st 500m. Did Jenny, Shelby or Shannon ever do that? All of Jenny S' 1500m medals were earned in tactical races. I love tactical races but no U.S. female has ever earned a W.C. medal in a 1500m race like today. You can say 2019 women 1500m final was like today but no U.S. woman earned a medal that day in 1500m.
The difference between 3:58 and 3:55 is enormous in terms of fitness and no one in that chase group knows what that kind of hurt feels like. At some point, they'll need to try and find out if they want medals, but I don't blame them for not wanting to try it in a global final.
It's even more than just 3:58 vs 3:55 fitness. It's 3:58 vs. 3:55 with either a suicidal first lap or frontrunning fitness.
No American has gone under 3:54 - barely gone under 3:55…
And here I was thinking you'd spoiled the race for me. When I saw them go through in an absolutely insane 55, I thought, maybe they'll come back to her, but she was badly beaten in over 4 minutes, so what exactly is the mf for, finishing? That was not a very good performance for her at all. Over three seconds off her pr in a 3:52.96 race on a super fast track with plenty of drafting available where just by backing off the pace and running 2:08/3:12, you'd be in contention for a big pr? Very underwhelming, 4:01.6.
Sinclaire doing so well after leaving BTC and Jerrys training also shows how bad of a coach he is to anyone who is not a "strength" runner.
This right here. I cant believe these dumbasses and their flawed thinking.
