One cool thing about Monroe Woodbury is that they had one of the best 1/2/3s a NY team has had coming into the season. They lost their 4-7 from state last year, and their 4/5 were looking to be far behind, but during track/summer they found a 4/5 to add to their 3rd.
Their 6/7 are far behind though so they have to make sure their 1-5 are on at NXR.
And yeah, FM has a lot of work cut out for them especially at the 4/5 position to catch up to Corning/St A/MW. They will probably need to close the 1-5 gap but it will be hard for the 4th and 5th guys to do. 2 of the guys who were varsity last year ran over 30 minutes today, so unless they get healthy again, this team will likely need to depend on the junior and sophomore who weren’t on varsity last year and were running a little over 5 minutes in the 1600 times in track.
Burnt Hills has a lot of work to do too. Actually more so than FM. They are weak at positions 2-5. The guy leading the team this year is the guy who was only their #5 last year (and quite a bit behind their #4).
I think the top 3 boys teams at NY right now look like this:
1- Corning. Great senior heavy team with Bange leading the way. Got second at NXR to Burnt Hills last year without him, and they only lost their #1.
2- St Anthony’s. Very good pack that put 5 under 16:30 on a rigorous course in the first race. Lacking a front runner though. This pack actually has a small 1-7 spread so they will be displacing scorers from other good teams. Brancaccio will spend the most of the time leading the team, but he is no Bange from Corning or the Collins from MW.
3- Monroe Woodbury- came into the season with one of the best trios in the state. Also found 2 more guys to add to their #3. The only problem is that because they don’t have an outstanding 6/7, it would really hurt the team if someone gets sick, injured, or has an off-day.
