Another rumor circulating is that John Capriotti is brought in to be the Director of TF/XC at U of O. He would be tasked with revamping the program, re-establishing community ties and marketing, plus make any needed staffing and personnel changes. Murmurs are that Phil Knight is not pleased with the empty stands and is concerned that the university is not paying sufficient attention to the program in light of his huge gifts over the years. He wants it run like a professional sports franchise with a CEO/GM to oversee the program allowing coaches to focus solely on coaching.
Empty stands is a good point. The irony is his obsession to be the best is why people are turned off to Nike. Maybe if scandals weren’t constantly surrounding Nike track then Phil boy could attract more to his baby stadium. Start hiring people of integrity. Not coaches like Salazar, Schumacher, and Johnson. Athletes of integrity will follow coaches of integrity. But we know that’s never been Nikes m.o.
Well when your mentor and idol is Bill Bowerman…..
The rumours I've heard - that it's pretty much a done deal that OTC coach Mark Rowland has taken another job.
The more speculative rumour was that with Rowland departing, and with all the drama around BTC, Nike want to combine OTC and BTC/rebrand, having one team in Portland (UAC) and one in Eugene (O/BTC). Rather than two in Portland. The idea being Schumacher remains coach of the combined team.
Again, trust the former info, but the second rumour I question more. Might even just be an idea that escaped a brainstorming meeting at Nike and spiraled into a bigger rumour.
Spoke to my friend who told me these two rumours before the Rowland news broke. They changed their tune on the Schumacher just taking over OTC. Said 100% Schumacher to U of Oregon was a done deal and that BTC was moving to Eugene.
So Jerry will have to divide his attention between bowerman and the UofO? Seems like a lot to handle wonder how it will pan out, if I were a pro I would want my coach to not be distracted with the NCAA side of things
Oregon will once again be led by a distance-oriented coach - and a very successful one - as Jerry Schumacher will be returning to the collegiate ranks after a 14-year absence. *MB: SC members, and the next University of Orego...
I bet Shalane takes over Jerry’s BTC job and BTC stays in Portland. It seems like she’s been in line to continue moving up the ranks as a coach, and I can’t see her/her family moving to Eugene. That way, they also avoid many of the potential issues that could come about with a BTC/UOregon partnership. Thoughts?

BTC is really only nominally in portland. they're probably there a few weeks a year? maybe i'm underestimating and they're consistently there in sept-dec, but seems like they spend pretty much all their time in park city and st moritz
when this rumor first came up i was thinking no way he wants to deal with recruiting and all the BS that comes with being a college coach, but I guess he's probably a big enough brand that he doesn't need to "recruit" like others do. go to oregon if you wanna be one of the best in the world, or no thanks. he doesnt need to work to sell kids.

You mean Flagstaff. They only train at altitude in Park City and Flagstaff according to what Grant Fisher says on his podcast. Never heard St Moritz mentioned before

I don’t think they go to altitude camps outside of the US anymore.

the last few years havent been normal. i assume they'll be in st moritz in august. it was always a summer base for european racing.
Jerry does not work for BTC and Jerry didn’t create BTC. Jerry is a Nike employee. He is a great Coach but he sold his soul to the evil empire years ago. Nike needs help at University of Oregon and Nike TOLD Jerry that he would be taking this job.
