I am about to pis% in my pants! Will run the %k on Sunday and watch the men's marathon then go to the track for M 10000. Monday will run around Springfield for the women's marathon then off to the afternoon track session for the M SC and the W 1500, along with all the other events in those time slots.
Womens 800; rooting for a USA sweep. Mens 200; love a grudge match. I’m not too excited by either 1500, but both the men and women’s steeple look like they could be great and unpredictable. Crouser and Kovacs make the shot put fun. (So I guess my answer is… I’m excited about the events team USA is gonna crush) :)
I was thinking about this the other day. In track, the men's and women's competitions are treated pretty evenly as it's mainly about a beating b, etc so the difference in times isn't that important. In basketball, the difference in ability is obvious if you are watching it.
But golf is much like track - it's mainly about a beating b - and yet the women's golfers make like 1/10th of what men make.
Hassan, who tripled in Tokyo, hasn't raced all year but coach Tim Rowberry said the last two months of training have gone well after a rough start to 2022. *MB: Sifan Hassan is entered in 3 events at Worlds, will race 2 and i...
I think no offense to Grant, but the more compelling storyline may be who is the current best distance runner in the world (if there is one)? Barega? Cheptegei? Aregawi? Do we get someone running just one event winning a gold?
Also I think the mens 400, womens 100H (world record v possible), womens steeple, and womens 1500 could be great.
Excellent point. The men's 10 and 5 are going to be INSANE. Who wins the 10k- Barega or Cheptegei? Then they come back in the 5 with Jakob?
I am curious to see how many empty seats will dot Hayward. I have a feeling it will be a lot and Track Town USA will stay home devastated.
I looked at the ticketing website. The 2nd weekend is very full.
The stadium is small. I think it will look great. It's not hard to get 15,000 track fans from the entire globe to show up at the first Worlds in 3 years.
The PM sessions for the opening and closing weekends are very full. I didn't check mid-week. AM? I doubt it.
Interesting what you say about cutthroat 800 semis ... are you old enough to remember the 84 Trials and 84 Games (Johnny Gray, Earl Jones, Joaquim Cruz)? Man, those were cutthroat!

Yes, is this not the greatest men’s 5000 m field ever assembled? This is the race of the meet. Now that Hassan is back, I’d say her quest for a double again is a better story than several others listed. Finally, I know Mu looked a touch vulnerable at the trials, but she’s going to smoke this field when it counts and in retrospect the women’s 800 will be a🥱
If the stands are not going to be full is it possible that they could give the tickets to local high schools for a very discounted fee? I know some other championships did similar. It might spark a lifelong interest in some children.

The biggest story is all the different nationalities of women and those track goddess bodies. Omg. Can’t get enough. Hopefully there’s butt cheeks and pierced nips everywhere lol.
I’ve gotta say, I really question JG’s use of “gunned down” as a metaphor in the section of the article about the 200m. You could have used any number of less aggressive and violent sounding metaphors, especially amidst a summer of mass shootings in the US. Just kinda came off in bad taste to me
Triggered much?
I thought it was the perfect metaphor and I am very much anti gun.

Was there for both. Sad to see guys like Paige, Robinson and Wilson not get another chance but watched Jones and Marshall all season and knew they were in the hunt for a spot. Gray and Jones advance to the final in LA with Jones being my favorite and hopeful but Cruz was on a tear and his size and back kick was imposing. Coe was my idol but 800s are like NASCAR. Its all about position. Jones clung smartly to the rail but ran out of time/track and Cruz was fulfilling his destiny.

It will be pretty full. Don't forget, it's not a local crowd like nationals. Athletics officials from all over the world will be attending. The Super Bowl is full not because the stands are packed with locals but because of personnel from the NFL and all the teams are attending.
