I don't know if this is for sure the case, but the course they ran is notoriously hilly, with decent altitude. This could be why Hill didn't run as fast as I would've expected, due to the fact that Texas courses are just way different then Idaho courses.
certainly. you can’t gloss over how many solid Seniors they are losing after this year, a complete team of 15-16 guys right there. I think 2023 looking good as the Seniors to be deep if Alvarez and Golomb in there. Also if Bullard doesn’t go back to swimming. Southlake always develops talent from nowhere like last year #1 David Fischer was 17’s most of Freshman year. last year there really weren’t any Southlake sub 15 guys, I think this year a few will develop and a few are around more years.
Right. Even if Bullard does go back to swimming next year, they will still have Leonard, Troutman, and Severson. If both Golomb and Alvarez are back (they are actually entered at Woodbridge this year, not sure if it means they are racing. We will know tomorrow or Saturday), this team will be 5-deep and could challenge for a national title. It won’t be easy though. Jesuit LA is still going to have a little advantage (4 nonseniors have a capability of actually scoring for them this year), and another nonsenior could step up during this year’s XC season and next year’s track season. Jesuit is running at the southern showcase so we will see if they have anyone else. #5 will be key for them next year. Carroll did get second in 2011. CBA won that year and will have a chance to do it again next year. So does American Fork (maybe) but I don’t think they will make NXN next year. If NXN gets cancelled somehow, Fork should get in the top race at RunningLane and do well there, and under mostert next year they should go for their first national title. Next year and the year after that will be great years to take advantage of Newbury Park being down.

Fork probably won’t make NXN this year, not next year. I think next year they or Valor Christian will be favorites in the Southwest.
I don’t see Bullard going back to swimming and leaving XC. He clearly did XC and swimming last year. I’m sure he will do the same this year. I was told by one of his teammates that he’s a nationally competitive triathlete and races all summer across the country. He’s apparently better at triathlon than running or swimming individually.
He’s probably on low to moderate mileage with a lot of cross training (swimming and biking). It’s a very similar cross training philosophy to Flower Mound. Build fitness and the aerobic base without all the pounding.

that makes a ton of sense, he's built like a solid triathlete, like a Lionel Sanders. I don't know about his cycling, but as a Sophomore to already have a 15:23 and Freshman :46/1:42 is world class.
last year he didn't run the end of season races, so swimming was his priority, hopefully this year he hangs on through at least State and NXN especially since a solid top 5 for Southlake.
Blake got 16th out of 150 at Nationals in the 15-19 age group. I'm impressed how fast some of those kids are. Blake is a 1:42 Freestyler, but several put 10-30 seconds on him. Someone also ran home in 15:45! Blake still needs to develop his cycling, but he has 3 more years in this age group at Nationals.
Yeah I can imagine him running at all end-of-season and post-season races for the rest of his HS career. He is probably on of the top 10th graders in the country. I think all of his teammates will convince him to stay on the team.

There were separate 16-17 year old and 18-19 year old races (The 16-17 Juniors raced an hour after the 18-19’s based on the schedule). Not sure why they combined those results. Here are the results of the 16-17 National race. Blake was the 2nd fastest 16 year old at Nationals.
Maybe it’s ok if they let Bullard go back to swimming for this season. He finished way behind the rest of his teammates at Woodbridge, and some teammates in the rated race finished faster than him now that more of the SLC top guys are back racing. No offense to Bullard though
Look how good next year’s southlake carroll boys team is gonna be They lose 3 varsity guys (including their #1) but return the following Woodbridge times: 14:35 - 11 14:43 - 9 14:44 - 11 14:45 - 10 15:11 - 11 15:15 - 11. Ran a 9:32 in the 3200 and this is his first race of the year. 15:20 - 10 15:21 - 10 - Bullard. Probably had a bad race. Should be one of the best teams in the nation again. The south region is going up-hill. Jesuit La might win nationals next year.
Good race by Sanchez and Vandegrift but man, if only they had a number 5!!! But he seems to be making progress on getting there

It was his first off race of the year. he has been solid with full 5k’s similar to his Woodbridge time.
