Hunter hill helped his team win the Bob firman invite.
great oak finished lower than expected
He’s still finishing behind guys he placed alongside at Garmin, not as good moving from Southlake coaching?
You could be right about the coaching change. Hill was with the top Rocky Mountain guys at mile 1. he couldn’t keep up with them. Maybe that will change at the end of the season?
Rocky’s 5th was with their 4th at mile 1 but he fell back too. That will need to change too.
im sure that winning this meet will put Rocky Mountain on a national spotlight anyways.
I am way more underwhelmed by Great oak’s performance though.
The boys from Rocky Mountain, ranked third in the Northwest region, won the Bob Firman Invitational title on Saturday with 117 points. Landon Heemeyer led the way with the individual victory in 14:58.4 and was joined by Tyler...
hunter hill carrying the whole interview. People that don’t know anyone on this team would think that Hill knows more about Idaho and the program than any anyone else on this team does.
What the…2 of Coppell’s juniors went from midpack JV last year to a 174 and 168 speed rating. Actually one of those guys even split the Vedant/Mullen duo!!! That’s just effing nuts!!! It also seems like their 4-5 gap has a better chance of being closed than for the woodlands. I would absolutely love to see them beat the woodlands at state and NXR. Jesuit’s choice of going to RunningLane will give Coppell an opening for their first ever NXN berth!!! They can thank Jesuit for that. But of course, they got time to change their mind. I think the graduation of Kyle Easton and I think another woodlands senior or 2 might have played a big role in Coppell having an edge. Coppell graduated no one (and still the 2 juniors who were JV last year weren’t afraid to move up so much in the varsity ranks).
It seems Coppell making big jumps in times from last year to this year. remember the one guy who dropped 6 minutes off his 5K time? Last year they didn’t make it out of region… what happened this year? Was there a change in training or a coaching change? Big stuff is coming from Coppell this year…
Coppell is very senior-loaded this year unlike last year. They are actually trying to go for a state title, not just podium. Not that I think they will be happy if they don’t podium.
I can imagine Lex and Leo Young acting like coaches at Newbury Park after Brosnan left.
I wonder if this Coppell tradition will continue after this year. They only have 2 nonseniors on varsity. Maybe once again, 2 class of 2025 guys will come out of nowhere and drop a lot of time and make Coppell’s top 4?
Vandegrift seems to have made a big jump from last year too. They did lose a lot of guys but still have some young talent and found 5 guys. Of course having Kevin Sanchez doesn’t hurt
It’s unfortunate for Coppell that if they really want to win state, it would mean they need to want to become a top 10 team in the nation. That would be an awfully big jump from last year.
check out the interview with Kevin Sanchez. He said that last year was the first time that Vandegrift ever made state. Didn’t even realize that. 3 of their top 5 are coming back next year. Are they a team that will start making the podium every year next year? 3 of their top 5 are coming back next year. And they are all in different grades. They also have a freshman who is their 6th or 7th, Schick (current junior who was scoring last year but has yet to race this year, so maybe he will have a really good season again next year), and also a couple of really good 8th graders. There always seems to be a freshman at Vandegrift who scores. So that’s gonna be helpful for this program in the future.
