I want to echo your comments. My daughters are good D3 collegiate distance runners, so they are not future pros or anything, but they care about and follow the sport. There is no doubt Molly is the major role model to them and their teammates in a way that Cranny or Schweizer or even Touhy are not. Molly’s success, coupled with her public demeanor, and her very public struggles in areas that affect many of the young women, make her highly relatable and inspiring. My daughter’s are well aware of the members of our wc distance team, but nobody else moves the needle for them like Molly with the possible exception of Mu.
There is something off about Molly Seidel...how do you fracture ribs and now tailbone doing distance training? Is she being abused?
There’s definitely something going on, but my guess is that it’s likely an osteoporosis situation rather than an abuse situation. It truly sounds like Molly is struggling and though as elite as she is, it may be in her best interests to step away from professional running for a bit.
If her physical and now mental health are suffering, I’d imagine it would only get tougher to control from here. She’s been open with her eating disorder struggles, but if she gets a TUE for her now ADHD, then that could open a whole new line of physical problems. ADHD medications are notorious for weight loss and lack of sleep which wouldn’t help her as a pro. Best wishes to Molly.
Lars….you’ve got me all confused. I could have sworn that Peres from Kenya ‘won’ the Olympic Marathon.
My bad. You’ve corrected all of us that Molly won. Thank you.
Wow you must be an extremely casual fan for not caring who wins medals at olympics. Incredible how you still hang out here. To learn a bit I recon. Much to improve!
This is sad news and it sounds like Molly is struggling with things again. I commend her for making this decision. I trust that she has an injury. I also believe that some demons from her past have resurfaced. Mental health issues are just like substance addictions. It is an ongoing and lifelong fight. In my estimation, she is being honest and is trying to do the right thing by seeking permissions up front. ADHD, OCD, and depression all go along with ED issues.
Give her the space to fight whatever battles she needs to wage at this time. Speculating that she is covering up a PED positive or casting her as a weak individual is neither helpful nor fair. If this were a male athlete, 90% of you would be supportive and praising their bravery.
Best wishes to Molly - get well! Best of luck to Keira in Eugene!
Huge fan but I noticed Molly's issues a while ago. Though she is well rounded, she had somewhat of a socially dormant experience as a teenager. Then wham, bronze medal, Time, Espn and Newsweek along with 229k followers instagram.
This got to her. Exposure to alcohol got to her. Caffeine got to her. Adderrall has gotten to her.
Whatever underlying mental problems were there are now on the surface.
so many experts here on lets run! so much free insight we’re getting from what must be doctors, mental health experts, professional speculators, marathon mavens, and close friends of molly’s! thank you for being so willing to share your inside and expert knowledge! it’s wonderful!

Not to mention world class physicists, scientists, MDs and public health experts, political pundits, national and international law experts, and also coach and they know more than the best coaches in the world. Plus they all went to Ivy League schools on merit scholarships ran sub 14 5K, own multimillion dollar homes and are on to their second or third trophy wife.
It's really tough being a classic incel know-nothing whataboutist, white-supremacist, misogynist troll, but hey someone has to do it!
Everyone who says adderall is a PED has clearly never gone on a run while on addy
You clearly haven’t. I’m prescribed adderall. It’s a PED. I don’t think it necessarily makes you faster by just taking it before a race. It makes you faster because it makes getting motivated to put the training in a million times easier

It doesn't need to enhance performance for the IOC, WA, or WADA to put it on a banned list. What did Richardson get banned for, and did it speed her up? So, maybe it is slowing her down. Still the same, if she's been busted for it, she's out - and it's not her decision. I don't know one way or the other, but she may have gotten the boot. We will know soon if this is the case.
I feel badly for Molly reading all about this. However, what bothers me is why a doctor would prescribe Adderall? Both Molly, Dr. and her team must have known this med is banned. The med is highly addictive, you become dependent very fast. Maybe she thought she could use it just for out of competition? I am an educator, and this med is prescribed with extreme caution for ADHD now, as there are now other medications with less severe side-effects.
It makes sense that they'd select D'Amato since she's been so great lately. But if they went by the selection criteria they originally announced (based on placement in one of last year's major marathons), it would've been Nell Rojas (4th in Boston last year). I hope she's not too upset by this.
Whoa there, you are bringing up a most excellent point, and typical of the idiocy on this board, you are getting downvoted! I’ll continue to read the rest of the thread to see if the hypocrisy you evidently pointed out is addressed.

Well then, you addressed it, and reiterate an interesting point with an exclamation point! It was a low-blow to guys with good marathon times, like Marty Hehir, to change the selection criteria to only choose from Boston, New York, or Chicago. It was even worse to make that announcement AFTER Chicago and Boston had already been run.
