What's the future for NCAA DI Olympic sports?

In the next 10-15 years we will see the death of mid major division 1 conferences and schools. They will either suffice to cutting teams that make no money or joining some super league of mid major in the nation to keep it a float. Perfect example is the MAC. Olympic sports in that conference keep getting cut every year and I don’t see why they’ll exist in the next 10-15 years financially wit these moves. They’re literally losing money. I wouldn’t be shocked if we start to see collegiate sports other than football basketball or baseball become a separate entity from the NCAA with the direction it’s headed in with NIL and money and conference alignment

We’ll find out here in August once the NCAA transformation committee announces the changes they plan to implement. I’ve heard of them potentially reducing or eliminating minimum sport requirements, which would be the end for many Olympic sports, especially male ones.

At least the SEC schools are using some of their extra money to bolster their track and field programs. Hopefully a good omen for what is to come from the fallout from this football madness.

Guaranteed revenue to colleges from the military. Note this does not include football and basketball. The more a college provides athletic bodies to the military, the more money from the Pentagon will go to those high-output colleges.

The D-I transformation committee, a group of "high-ranking college leaders charged with overhauling and modernizing NCAA governance," is considering "revolutionary changes some administrators describe as 'radical,'" according to Ross Dellenger of SI.com. The committee, chaired by SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and Ohio Univ. AD Julie Cromer, revealed "ideas to deregulate longtime NCAA bylaws and decentralize such decisions to the conferences." Concepts being considered include: "(1) eliminating scholarship caps on sports that offer only partial scholarships; (2) abolishing the limitation on the number of coaches per team; (3) expanding direct payments from schools to athletes; (4) reconfiguring the recruiting calendar; and (5) implementing closed periods in the NCAA transfer portal." The decision to share the concepts is an "apparent effort to prepare administrators for impending change that is even more transformative than many expected." If the concepts are approved, the first three items would "be left in the decision-making hands of individual conferences." While these are "only concepts and not approved measures," the ideas are "being socialized across the college sports landscape." The committee’s ideas on deregulation were "met with opposition from a wide swath of administrators." Tuesday night’s announcement that NCAA President Mark Emmert plans to resign by next June was a "first step in what will be a new NCAA, with transforming starting at the very top." The committee had been tasked by Emmert and an exec group of school presidents to "rewrite D-I policies by August," but some now believe the process will "stretch into the fall" (SI.com, 4/27).
