Gault first asks him a question at 1:05 about how it felt for Noah Lyles to point at him at the finish line and Knighton says the question is "so disrespectful". Later Gault tries to ask how he felt coming back after running the first round earlier in the day and Knighton just says "good", clearly still mad about the first question.

In Jon Gault's defense, there were people who thought he was pointing at Knighton. Watching the broadcast, it was pretty clear to me he was just pointing generally in a direction like when someone would do a finger-wag, fist-pump or even Centro's throat slash/Hocker's silencing — it didn't strike me as a direct taunt. But Noah had to clarify it, so I wouldn't call the question so much "disrespectful" as presumptuous/leading and trying to create some drama. Don't mind Knighton not liking it.
Yeah I actually didn’t think it was a bad question. Maybe could have been worded more constructively but easy to say that in hindsight when you know the reaction.
Ironic he labeled the question as “disrespectful” since Lyle’s actions were!
Here is the deal. The question was a bit odd because what was the kid supposed to say? Seriously? Maybe he was answering the question and when he said “that is so disrespectful,” maybe he was talking ABOUT Lyle.

For the record, I meant no disrespect to Erriyon (and told him as much off-camera afterwards). I don't regret asking about the Lyles point -- I think every track fan was interested to know how Erriyon felt about it and it would have been irresponsible on my part not to ask. My only regret is maybe I could have worded the question a little better. Maybe say something like: "Noah made a gesture when he crossed the finish line. It looked like he was pointing at you. What did you think about that?"
(From my angle watching the race live, it looked as if Lyles was pointing at Knighton, even though it does appear he was pointing past him on the replay)
We also have to remember that even though he's been to the Olympics, Erriyon is still only 18 years old. So I'm not going to judge him too harshly based on how he reacts to a defeat.
IF Gault had asked me that question I would have said I barely noticed anything but you should be asking Noah about his actions because I have nothing to do with it. NEXT!

Lyles was DEFINITELY pointing at Erriyon. Even though Lyles came up with an excuse, it's BS. Based on how Lyles was answering questions in the interviews, he was sh*tting on Erriyon every chance he got.
Did you ask Lyles why would someone who openly battled with depression purposely treat a high schooler like sh*t and potentially cause the high schooler depression? Did you ask Lyles why he was so disrespectful to a high schooler?
Lyles should have been getting the hard questions, not Erriryon. You are disgusting.
Lyles posed for the finish line camera - this seems to be a specific skill that sprinters work on (probably more than actually sprinting). Lyles also disparaged Knighton's top end speed standing right next to him in the immediate post race reactions with Lewis. If I were in Knighton's shoes, I'd be more upset about those comments rather than the camera posing

he is a terrible loser. easier to root for when he isn't talking. hope he learns from this and grows up.
Naw, I think he’s a kid who has hardly lost in his life when he’s expected to win. He hates the feeling of losing and doesn’t know how to handle it. If he and his coach handle it right, he’ll turn all that anger into quality training.
Lyles was relieved that he dodged the loss he was fearing and expecting. This gave him an adrenaline rush and caused him to act out. It's like getting a surprising result and then screaming you know it!

i don't mind being mad. i liked the way he stormed off after a couple quick answers in the immediate post race interview. but there's no reason for the salty comments with JG.

The kid was probably annoyed by the question and he was a little rude with Gault because Gault reminded him of something unpleasant. The kid is 18 years old and he was being asked what does it feel like to be disrespected? The kid was probably hurt by it. So he appeared a little frustrated but again when he said that is so disrespectful he either thought Gault was slightly taunting him (even though he wasn’t) or he was really talking about Lyle’s actions .
It's obvious that Erriyon was upset about the classless taunting and that showed in many of the questions, starting from the on-track interview after the race.
I think more so he was mad that u were trying to get a reaction out of him. He’s an 18 yr old who’s running incredible and instead of focusing on his results, u point out drama. Lmao
